WCHL: Bunting To Resign / N&O: Bunting Not to Resign

“Unnamed but informed Administrative sources tell WCHL News that Head Coach John Bunting indicated that if the football team didn’t reverse its direction with a win in Charlottesville Thursday night, that he would spare the school the embarrassment of further losses and would offer his resignation by the end of the season – possible as early as this weekend.”

Bunting, however told the News & Observer today that the report is false. (Link) In the conversation, neither Bunting or the N&O commented on the continued absence of a Bunting-focused cartoon to balance the Chuck Amato cartoon composed by the N&O prior to the start of this football season.

North Carolina football coach John Bunting today denied a report stating that he plans to resign by the end of the season possibly as early as this weekend.

Contacted this afternoon by The News & Observer, Bunting was asked if he had heard about the report, and whether it was true. “I have heard it,” Bunting said. “It is absolutely not true.”

Best wishes in the future to coach Bunting and the assistants.

They tried, and failed, to restore UNC football. Hopefully their next endeavors are more successful.

Now unfortunately, the team will probably pull together like Duke did and play harder.

Screw that Bunting! Make them buy out your damned contact!

Don’t let the bastards get you down, John! Stay the course! Until November 19, 2006!

Someone on thsi site called this about a month ago.
    I say Bravo to you.

One point, though: This radio station is, shockingly, an Air America affiliate. So take anything they report with a grain of salt. They could report that Bunting would resign and then, ten minutes later, report that the state was withering away and true communism was possible in our lifetimes.

I can’t see him quitting. But the guy loves his school. If he knows he will be fired, he taking the high road by doing this early and letting the administration conduct a job search now.

A whole lot better than starting at the end of the season in competition with all the oher schools who have lost/fired their coaches.

    Cardiff,

If he doesn’t resign as the Air America affiliate is claiming…then you have a whole year’s worth of material for the blog!

John, John, Johnny Boy, don’t give up now whatever you do. Life is too short to tuck your tail and run now! You’ll never get over it and it will haunt you for the rest of your days. Buck up man, hang in there, stay the course, let your less successful tenure take the media’s heat off of Amato for at least 7 consecutive days, now that’s the spirit!!!

^^ Looks like, in blind pig to an acorn fashion, I called this one right. I may not know football plays all that well, but I am a pure D expert on lib’rul radio stations and falsehoods. 🙂

    Cardiff,

this is a sports board and not a GOP propaganda piece. Please keep your tripe on the Brickyard.

^ Oh, simmer down, Francis, before I tell you to roast in hell like your mendacious namesake. I posited the radio station was unreliable and turned out to be completely correct. That’s not propaganda. That’s fact.

The Giant knows of what he’s speaking of.

Someone apparently overheard something, told someone on the WCHL staff what the heard, and hear we are.

    Nothing has changed, yet.

Doesn’t mean there’s not a storm a-coming. It does, however, mean that the report of a tornado on the ground is rubbish.

Considering our revolving-door coaching staff, we might want to keep Bunting in mind for a … ah … well … I guess he could coach the trainers?

bunting will do the right thing—leave and go back to the nfl as an assistant—the irony will be that he owned us while he was the head man there—in the ‘old days’—that alone would buy you some more time—ask carl torbush—look for the heels to replace him with a non-alum who has won at the D-I or IAA level as a head coach in a conference not as high profile as the acc—ala urban meyer from bowling green to utah—or—bobby johnson from furman to vandy—best of luck—i’d like to see the heels step up—so when we kick ’em good it counts for somethin’—go pack

    Cardiff,
You are oh so right regarding the station and that applies to the University and town as well. The only thing they are missing over there is Fidel Castro.

They are every bit as reliable as Bahgdad Bob.

Just like a stopped clock is right twice a day, WCHL will be right with this story sometime. It just wasn’t yesterday.
