    This would be huge…

    Any guesses?

  5. choppack1 10/12/2006 at 11:39 AM #

After Monday – probably best if we all just wait until the actual announcement is made.

  6. Mr O 10/12/2006 at 11:43 AM #

This would be huge for Lowe and Harris. Landing a top 25 players this early would be a huge first step for Lowe.

  7. Dan 10/12/2006 at 11:51 AM #

You add Smith and Warren to Hickson and you have a nice foundation. The 2 and 3 are taken care of. We have depth there for 2 years to come in Grant (jr), Fells (so), Costner (big 3….fr), Johnny Thomas (fr), Horner (fr), Furgeson (fr). We need true 1’s and 4/5’s for next season.

The above list of young swingmen and 2 guards is why the Rashard Green situation is so freaking odd.

The Cameron Crazies just lost their boy JJ. They have kept the initials warm and dont have to change any cheers.

I dragged this over to the latest thread to see if I’m losing my mind:

Maybe I’ve missed it somewhere, but how about the timing of yesterday’s events? Which came first, the scheduling of a team media day or the scheduling of C Wright’s announcement? I have to think the media day event has been on for a while.

Is it just me, or does anyone think that Sidney Lowe was planning to burst wide open with great news for the program yesterday? That is, right up until the events of the final hour rocked his whole world. It’s either that, or the timing of C Wright’s announcement should have come much earlier, or even later, to allow the events of this media day to focus on the guys who we already know will be suited up in Wolfpack uniforms this season? Add to that the Brackman debacle, which we were already prepared for but still consumed most of the otherwise, and supposedly exciting, TEAM media event.

Too much for me to begin to comprehend timing-wise. But also not hard to believe considering the sources.

    Dan,

The Rashad Green situation shouldn’t be so confusing. Rashad has always been a severe BACKUP plan for IF we whiff on every conceivable point guard or combo guard target…nothing more, nothing less.

For example, if you whiff on all the ballhandlers like Wright, Warren, etc…you might take Green as a backup at the 2 with Thomas as a backup at the 3 while Ferguson would then focus solely on being a backup at the 1.

If, as another example, you get a ballhandler like Warren to work with Degand, you move Ferguson over to backup the 2 and have Thomas still backing up at the 3.

Horner is versatile and could play some 3, but, with lack of depth, he and Grant will spend a lot of time at the 4 this year for sure and next year IF we whiff on all of our 2007 frontcourt possibilities (not likely to happen, but you have to prepare for the worst at NC State as history has taught us).

Keep in mind also that a couple of our dream targets have not qualified yet…so, again, you better have some insurance just in case the worst case happens (as it always seems to for State).

The bottom line: You need DEPTH to run like Lowe wants to run and to be able to showcase a running style to future recruits. For now, Lowe has Green waiting in the wings as insurance. Green is a good kid with some athletic ability and an improving overall game who won’t be a qualifying problem. Green has tried to commit several times, but Lowe has made it clear that they have to address ballhandling and some of the older targets first. When and IF we whiff all around, expect Green to be welcomed as conditionally promised with open arms. IF, however, the ballhandling and/or old targets come through, the Green story will slide off into our collective absences of memory…Don’t worry too much about Green until the last signing day this fall—then we will all know whether to be totally worried about everything or not…

^ What I was trying to say is that it seems the Chris Wright decision was timed to coincide with NCSU’s media day. Maybe not??? In my estimation it was either scheduled in anticipation of a celebration, a terrible joke, or just a cold, hard slap in the face.

Trying to get some feedback to see if I am reading too much into the timing? Somebody please help me out.

  12. ncsuman 10/12/2006 at 12:39 PM #

Important question…. how can someone sweat as much as Bruce Pearl?

  13. primacyone 10/12/2006 at 1:01 PM #

Red – It would have have worked our very nicely, but only Sid knows if it was timed that way. It could of Ben. Okay, okay, we will say that it was.

  14. thebigwood 10/12/2006 at 1:03 PM #

    Red
I am just guessing here but…
I would hope that someone would have considered the timing thing, but you never know with the media relations fiasco that has been NSCU athletics lately. However, the media day has to be a politically savy event, so that Lowe could play both sides of the fence depending on where CW committed. I am guessing that it is best to assume the media day was NOT planned around CW’s PC…just so you don’t have to feel like we got dumped.

  15. Trout 10/12/2006 at 1:09 PM #

Hickson visited for the Boston College game. I think we get JJ.

  16. Trout 10/12/2006 at 1:11 PM #

“However, the media day has to be a politically savy event, so that Lowe could play both sides of the fence depending on where CW committed.”

That’s crazy talk. Lowe couldnt comment about Chris Wright no matter what. That would have been an NCAA violation. You cant talk publically about ANY recruit until tha recruit signs an LOI.

  17. packbackr04 10/12/2006 at 1:12 PM #

red^ you have totally lost your mind, and i base this not on your question to whether or not the CW press conf was scheduled to coinside with media day but rather on months and months of unstable and quite disconcerting comments posted on several threads…. frankly we are all a little worried for you.

I thought HIckson was at the BC game?

  18. wufpack 10/12/2006 at 1:13 PM #

Umm, Hickson most definitely visited. He was at one of the football games (BC, I think?) and he even brought his mother or grandmother (can’t remember which). He may not choose us, but being negative about something you obviously don’t even follow enough to the basic facts about is ridiculous.

  19. Pack Laddie 10/12/2006 at 1:14 PM #

    Details Trout, details.

  20. Trout 10/12/2006 at 1:14 PM #

Again, I think we land JJ Hickson.

  21. Dan 10/12/2006 at 1:18 PM #

“The Rashad Green situation shouldn’t be so confusing. Rashad has always been a severe BACKUP plan”

Dude, How many 2 guards do you need next year? We are going to have Grant, Fells, Thomas, Furgeson, and Horner. Maybe you can call Horner a 3/4. Fine. That leaves 4.

SFN: Fells is our only true 2 guard. Grant will play 3…Thomas is definitely NOT a 2 (will play a hybrid 3/4 like PJ Tucker)…Ferguson is an unknown who may or may not pan out…and Horner is more of a 3/4 than a 2

We dont need 5 guys to play the 2! We need true PG’s and post players. You go after backup for areas of need. Not areas in which you are freaking stacked.

BREAKING NEWS!!!! Bruce Pearl’s office has just been evacuated. Reports are saying that there are several feet of water throughout the Tenn. basketball facility. An unconfirmed source is reporting that Bruce Pearl sweated so much, that Uof T officials have declared flash flood warnings for all of campus today. And it is believed that most of his staff have escaped the anarchy on a homemade boat of some sort. They are paddling their way to Wheeler Highschool to see how JJ is doing in Science class this afternoon.

PS- i realize the irony of the Murphy center flooding this year. please spare the comments, i am just trying to lighten the mood in here, its seems a little stuffy… red, care to partake?

  23. Girlfriend in a Coma 10/12/2006 at 1:22 PM #

You know somebody is BSing you when Laddie is asking Trout for details.

  24. Dan 10/12/2006 at 1:25 PM #

    Man, Bruce Pearl can sweat.

Can you imagine getting stuck in between Gary Williams and Bruce Pearl on a crowded subway? But at least Gary doesnt sweat through his thighs.

  25. nycfan 10/12/2006 at 1:25 PM #

It seems that posters on the TN scout.com board think that Hickson will announce for NCSU, fwiw, although not all are giving up. Their boards read a lot like the State boards did on Tuesday, though.

This would be a big commitment for Lowe — State needs a recruiting “win” to get some wind in the sails for 2008 (and this might also go a long way to helping in the recruitment of ’07 *** PG Warren, who is visiting in a few weeks).
