I took a “mental health” break this afternoon and watched the BC game again — plus the highlights above. Tank Tyler destroyed that point of attack on THAT 4th down play. The refs gave BC an extra yd on the 3rd down fumble spot. Uneventful but could have been bad news. The O-line played better than I thought when I actually watched only the line-play.

On those sweeps that we lost yardage, I wonder if we would be better off “running off” the corners and backers than counting on blocking them at the line of scrimmage. If they don’t want to honor the receivers, let Evans burn them with the deep ball.

Lastly, watching Crouch on the “dumb” late hit, he was more moving to to “protect” Brown. Crouch more like bumped the guy with his arm and side as he arrived than delivered a hard blow with his shoulder. If BC went down that easily the rest of the game, we could have run for 400 yards in the game. When Chuck sees the film, I hope he eases up in the punishment department. No, not smart, but no not flagrant. I saw much more flagrant stuff that wasn’t call including our own hit on a receiver.

Dunlap got hit hard earlier in the game on a side-line BEFORE the ball got there but held on anyway. Too bad the ref standing on top of the play can’t see that.

Earlier in the week when the talk of hot seats came up I wanted to mention one name but couldn’t. Tom O’Brien holds the longest streak of consecutive Bowl wins with the Eagles at seven in a row. He brought a ranked team into Raleigh, one that had already overcome their biggest obstacle Clemson (or they thought) and looked good going in to the meat of a weakened ACC conference schedule. But I took a bus from the Manchester airport to the p-lot one day and couldn’t beleive how much to alums of BC ripped their coach apart. He is under the same type of scrutiny the Send.. (can’t type that word can I?) was under before he left. No one believes that a conference champion or BCS contender can ever come out of this regime. They don’t care that he is a menacing looking ex-jarhead, they have just become dulled into complancency thinking that eight win seasons topped with far off meaningless Bowl games are both the norm and the limit. The one thing that seperates his situation from our previous BB coachs is that no one likes the coach in Boston unless you’ve won something. There are no HSSS’ers, and there never will be in bean town, your just a loser or a champ. It all starts again in BC again and I feel comfortable including near the bottom of the list O’Briens name with place setting at the ‘ol hot seat banquet. On second thought, maybe give it a week and a half, if Chuck beats FSU then we won’t have to set another place, just change the placard.

The only comment I have made on this blog since the end of the game was, “That was fun.” I’ve been reading and keeping up with what you all were saying, but I just wanted to enjoy the moment

I watched the second half again this afternoon. It was fun again.

I do have one suggestion for the coaches. The way Tank played the second half and especially the 4th quarter maybe we should try sitting him for the 1st quarter every game.

/\ Good point. The D was on the field a lot in the first half, and maybe because Tank was rested he was able to dominate so thoroughly in the late minutes.
The most enjoyable thing about this game for me, was the way EVERYBODY was making plays. Obviously our better guys stepped up the most, but some young and unknowns made some big plays and there weren’t any real bonehead plays. I felt at the time Crouch was on time, but slowmo made him look later than he was. Our guys were hittin’ hard out there(!!)and I loved it.

Off point but just can’t help myself from today’s N&O the headline condensed version: “Swofford wins Homer Award”. I guess some of you guys were right about ol’ Johnny afterall, but why seek an award for it?

Tank deserves a piece of that game ball. He was all up in BC’s face. Kudos to Tank Tyler.

BC’s coach is on the hot seat — this week. But give him a win and the fans will flock back.

Fans are fickle. Lose a game – fire the coach. Win a game –“Ain’t we something!”

Fans need to be patient. Griping about a coach just hurts recruitiing. CTC should be out-recruiting Bunting from here on out as JB is going on the hottest seat in the ACC next to Coker. But give him a few wins and the sheep will flock back also to sit with JB and Rameses by the old well singing that alma mater with his hat on his heart.

The last thing WP fans should want is for JB to leave now.
