BC Preview Entry

BC

There will be lot articles and links on the internet in the next 36 hours focused on previewing Saturday night’s Boston College @ NC State football game. Let’s use this entry to consolidate them (with your help) and for pregame discussion.

* Eagle in Atlanta always has great work. (Link) Additionally, Section Six and BC Eagle talked about the game earlier in the week. (Section Six; BC Eagle).

* Pack Pride has a BC “Notebook” posted (Link) and has always posted the injury report that proclaims that Darrell Blackman will not play.

* The N&O says that State will be on alert for BC’s “Brawny offense” (Link). But, just being on alert for their offense isn’t going to be enough. We have to hope that the way that Southern Miss controlled the line of scrimmage was some sort of abberation. If not, we are in for a long night against the Eagles line play.

* You ALWAYS need our guide to the weekend’s television watching. (Link)

Tank Tyler will be out of action I suspect (NCAA rules governing or Chucks team rules). I haven’t seen any game for State so far this season, so can anyone name any freshman or redshirts on D that may be ready to step forward after getting a taste of some big time college football (two non BCS conference foes and a 1AA has some flavor of big time college football)?

    SFN: Don’t presume anything yet.

I keep hearing that BC is ‘well coached’, but in the games I’ve seen (which is only a couple, so I may be wrong) they have had several big penalties (various 15 yard ones) and have also had a player ejected this year. I seem to recall them having a player ejected in a game last year also.

I heard a comment on Monday that Tank would sit the 1st half. That was before the assault report came out or at least before I saw it.

Tank assault report?! fill me in.

    SFN: Read comments section here.

BC is not a great team. they have struggled A LOT this year, but have managed to pull out the W’s. I will say once again that they are highley over rated by all the polls(sadly even the SFN poll). But that dosnt mean that its going to be an easy game for us. I look for us to show some light… should be intresting.

BC is known for size down in the trenches, but I do not know if it’s the uniforms or what, but every game I’ve seen the Eagles play in person their OL always looks overwhelmingly mammoth and imposing as hell out on the field.

Anyone have quit access to size/experience charts for their OL?

i just hope we dont get beat down like a red headed step child on national tv. if we can get a push from the O and D lines, we have enough skill players to be a “decent team” and i use the term “decent” very liberally

They have had some decent players all across the board over O’Briens tenure, especially at the skills position. This game is going to be either a head on or near miss fatal crach for our troops in the trenchs. BC OL have been good but not spectacular so far. At the end of their first game or in the beggining of Clemson they allowed Ryan to be crushed, an injurry that should have taken him out of the game. O’Brien seems to be of the “tough guy” school of coaches and his plays mirror that. Ryan stayed in the Clemson game and led them to the ot special teams melt down of the Tigers. Dating back to guys like Matt Hasselback (even his brother could have been an Eagle) this team has been filled with some pretty tough cookies, and its a team that under O’Brien plays with alot of pride. I think away from there cozy high school stadium they are vert beatable. They are not the most disciplined, play a little bit over the edge, and are never quite as talented on D as on O (quite the opposite of Chucks recent teams). Besides our OL play (and obviously DE’s jitters) kick returns and yacs (yards after catch) could play a huge role. The Eagles have been quilty of some poor positioning and arm tackling on defense and special teams. The speed burst of a few Clemson guys really put that on display. We have got to see what Blackman, Hall? and co. can do in the open field with the help of some solid down field blocking. Our defense, I’m afraid can’t stop all the leaks to win this one with out some help. Big plays as I’ve described can really help them stay focused and in the game if by chance they are being shredded by Ryan and co.

Thanks, I have only seen a few minutes of BC this season so I didn’t have much, if anything to go on. That helps, I think…I hope…I pray.
