sorry that this is off-topic but i stumbled across this Lowe article that brought a smile to my face:

Lowe also pointed one of his recruits to research Hall of Famer David Thompson, who led N.C. State to the 1974 NCAA championship.

“You get a text (message) back (from the recruit saying), ‘Wow, he was really good,”‘ Lowe said. “That’s what they need to know.”

SFN: We have that article (and a couple of others) ready to run in an entry tomorrow. Thanks for sharing!

I’m surprised that more kids don’t know about 1983 because it is in about every top 10 sports moments list.

    Latest one, at #10:

I mentioned this a few days back about Smith. He’s going off the charts he’s so good right now. We have a great chance in getting him to hear about the “new, kind of like the old” NC ST. Landing Thomas already is big since I think they play alot of summer league against/with one another. CAUTION! MT. Zion has no proven connection between the diploma mills scandal and NCAA rulings. They are still under investigation and if they are found to be one of these institutions then any graduate in ’07 will not be given a free pass to the NCAA clearinghouse system (’06 grads were given exeption since the ruling was just handed down). Why did Calamari want to stay in Memphis? Trust me, I do not want this to shake out this way, and I hope Lowe and staff make every effort to ensure Tracy will get into State and find that the athletic and educational backdrop in Raleigh are second to none. We love Tracy Smith, Go Pack!

I don’t want to be a downer because I see nothing but positives everywhere in Bball. But I was researching some the recruiting sites and it seems to me that a lot of the recruits that are continually showing here on SFN as interested possibilities, have us listed, but way on down their lists.

I just don’t want a lot of disappointment to follow if these guys go elsewhere. It is definitely not the fault of Lowe and staff, they are an unknown quanity to date. They’ll do fine this season, and given a little time they will getting looks from the best out there.

I would regret if J McMillian went elsewhere though. From what I have read he is spitting image of his Dad, all the way around, and that is nothing but solid on and off the basketball court. If you don’t remember Nate McMillian at NCSU, he was not flashy, but he was everywhere, everytime, and right when he needed to be. He could take it inside but he also turned games around with hustle on defense, and was always consistently dependable all over the court. I’d like to think that he might want his son here, but maybe he keeps up with news too much.

^ Hear ya…but, you have to realize that the staff has not been in a position to make a lot of personal contact with the kids recently because of the evaluation period.

We’re just following this stuff on the periphery right now. Don’t let any of it get you too worked up.

StateFans- I am truly in the dark, what exactly does the evaluation period entale, when does it start and end, and what is the schedule for contact and eventual signings from here on out? Hope that’s not too much to ask at one time. Thanks.
