State “geeks take second world title”

A quick congratulations to the NC State team that won the World Title “earlier this month in a prestigious contest known as the IEEE Computer Society International Design Competition. It was the first time a school had won the $20,000 award twice.” Link to N&O article here.

Fantastic work guys/gals/whomever!!

We can only wonder how these kids were able to do this? How in the world could they ever compete against professional and academic teams from all over the world when they probably shouldn’t even be able to compete against “Duke and Carolina” if you listen to one of the higest ranking officials at NC State.

“Our fans are comparing ourselves to Duke and North Carolina. Every program in the country doesn’t do well when you’re compared with those two on a day-to-day basis. I understand that our fans want to be able to compete with them; we all do. But you can be real good on a daily basis and not be better than those two programs.”

Luckily, these kids subscribed to the “Kelly Fox Doctrine”. If you need a refresher on the Kelly Fox doctrine, click here

“Everybody comes out and says, ‘You’re Carolina’s and Duke’s little brother and you can’t compete with those guys.’ Ya know what? Everybody who graduates from N.C. State goes out and competes against Duke and Carolina people every single day. And we kick their butt. You think I’m scared to compete with them in athletics? I expect the teams that I provide money to to compete with the best in the country.

This is awesome. I just shared this with my wife, ’01 grad, and she was tickled to say the least. We are light years ahead of everyone in the world of computer engineering, so its not a big shocker.
