Recruits Dropping at Local Programs

Earlier in the week, Chris Culliver, NC State’s top 2007 football (not so) ‘committment’ finally officially withdrew his word-isn’t-really-his-bond this week. At least we weren’t the only ones.

The focus this afternoon will most certainly be on Carolina losing their #1 football recruit from last year. (Link)

But, he’s now the only former recruit with some struggles.

Dennis Godfrey, the trouble Wake Forest “recruit indicted on charges of rape and kidnapping of a 16-year-old girl at a cookout will not enroll at the school this fall, officials said Friday. Dennis Godfrey signed a letter-of-intent to play football for the Demon Deacons in February. He was indicted last month by a grand jury, and also faces charges of second-degree sexual offense and sexual battery.” (Link)

* As a related link – this is an intereting look at a “can’t miss” prospect that will serve to provide an example that no prospect is a guaranteed stud.

* Nice information at Eagle in ATL

I remember writing an article a few years ago about Carolina’s football team.

They had one of the worst OLines in America the previous season and were suddenly predicted to be much better the next year.

Why?

Just because they were returning players didn’t mean that they were returning talent. Experience & maturity are definitely nice to have…but, they don’t make up for bad talent.

I don’t really think its prudent to laugh at UNC until we break this unacceptable 2 game losing streak.

Kids situation sounds like Ray Brooks in ’03, so lets not be hypocrites.

^ Couldn’t agree more with that.

I think it’s perfectly acceptable to revel in any misfortune they encounter., What we cannot do is make comments to the effect of “they suck” without looking foolish – at least until Amato finally manages to TCB against them, hopefully this fall.

Could the same guys that act like they are so academically superior spin a story to save the embarrassment of a non-qualifier?
This boy is going home for ‘family’ reasons but will be at Fork Union in less than a month for reportedly one semester. This boy lives over an hour from Fork Union.
Of course ‘d rather have the joy of winning a game than seeing them lose a recruit however based on the last couple years we have to get our little victories where we can.

^GoldenChain – That is a great point. For those that don’t remember, Julius Peppers redshirted his freshman year. I will go to my grave believing he was a stealth Prop 48 (or non qualifier) casualty.
