Lowe: On Recruiting

“My feeling is that it’s an even playing field. You watch and take the good and utilize it yourself. But, if you want a kid, you have to get in there and battle. You have to work harder than they work. My thing is I’m going to do what I have to do to get a kid, bottom line short of doing something illegal. You’ve got to hustle. And if the kid has to see your face every time he looks up, then I’ll be right there.”

Coach Lowe has exactly the attitude he had as a player.

I think we all know what road that led the Pack down. We see the moments after the penultimate basket every spring on TV.

GO LOWE!! I have not been this excited about wolfpack basketball in a while! Sid may not win us a championship, but i love his enthusiasm. Something ol’ Herb didnt.

does anybody else get a little nervous when an nba coach turned college coach exclaims he is going to get as close as he can to “illegal” recruiting?

  6. statered 07/12/2006 at 11:44 PM #

No. Besides, that’s not what he said at all.

i know it isn’t exactly what he said but it just struck me as unusual for him to say something that mentions the legality of it……maybe just the word “illegal” gets me on the edge.

“And if the kid has to see your face every time he looks up, then I’ll be right there.â€?

That’s what he’s talking about. He can’t talk to the kid, he can’t call him – but he’s gonna be in the front row watching him play. He’s gonna text him. He’s talking about playing w/in the rules. He’s going to have to work harder than Roy, Coach K, Calhoun or Olson -but there’s only so much he can do. And he’s going to do all the things that he legally can do to make a kid realize NC State wants him.

“……maybe just the word “illegalâ€? gets me on the edge.”
Maybe it is a word that has been burned into his brain after he crammed to pass the NCAA compliance test as fast as he did.

Come on guys, he simply said he will do whatever it takes to get a kid WITHOUT BREAKING THE RULES. Love the fire, love the spirit, and love the fact that Sid Lowe wants to make a difference. Might not happen right away, but kids will see it and want to come play for us. GO PACK!

^^ agree with vtpackfan on that.

When did the State fan wussy attitude start? It must of came in with Robinson and mushroomed under Sendek. Lowe I say do whatever it takes without breaking the rules and the program will be back on track sooner rather than later.

“When did the State fan wussy attitude start?”

t-t-t, I do not understand it, but it has run amuck. Some kind of left over from their parents, who didn’t bother to look any farther than the headlines when the Valvano farce went down.
