How about this!

With no offense to Tab Thacker, NC State’s greatest wrestlers of all-time, Sylvester Turkey, has made the “big time” of his sport. Turkey has been picked up by the WWE. Link to announcement.

WWE has signed yet another amateur wrestler, Sylvester “Predator” Turkey of Zero-One. Turkey debuted already on RAW working a dark match in Tacoma, Washington.

Turkey has an interesting past intertwined with Kurt Angle as he was mentioned in Angle’s book “It’s True”. Angle had the following to say about Turkey, “275 mountain of muscle. He has seventy-eight pins during his college career. During the tournament he pinned every opponent in an average of just over a minute. Basically, he went in, tied ’em up and pinned ’em. This guy was an animal.” Angle described his win over Turkey as, “a match people in amateur wrestling still talk about; the day David beat Goliath.”

It’s not quite known where Turkey will end up in WWE, speculation is that he could join Angle in ECW.

I had a lot of classes with Sylvester in school (class of ’93). Nice guy and pretty smart too. He did win the NCAA title as a senior. Here he is now: http://www.obsessedwithwrestling.com/profiles/p/predator.html

Those of you might remember Turkey (I thought it was spelled Turkay), lost in his junior season to Kurt Angle out of Clarion College (now Clarion University). So not only did he win the national title but competed for two. A heck of a wrestler and I wish him the best. Hopefully he can get his revenge on Kurt sometime soon!!!!

Thanks for the Tab Thacker props. One of my lasting memories of NC State is the sight of Tab Thacker riding a moped across The Brickyard. I thought the tires were going to explode. He was a machine on the mat. You should have seen the look on the face of UMd’s second stringer walking out to face Tab in Reynolds. The only reason he was wrestling was because the first string guy had three ribs broken by Tab a couple of weeks earlier.

Speaking of Tab, his son is a freshman wrestler at Glenn High School in Kernersville. I help coach a Triad high school wrestling team and I have yet to see Tab’s son but I’m sure he’s worth watching. Love to all the guys who loved and watched State wrestling!

Come on SFN, you give wolfpack nation the heads up on a former athlete going to the WWE, but no word of former wolfpacker Carl Pettersson winning the Memorial Tournement this past weekend in Dublin, OH.
