Record 8 of “Pack 9” Drafted

Despite yet another ‘nice’ season, Elliot Avent’s 10th season as NC State baseball coach ended like all of the others — without the Wolfpack bringing home any hardware of distinction after a 7th place finish in the country’s toughest conference. Don’t go over the deep end ASSuming that old SFN is against Avent and wants him fired for not winning an ACC Title in a decade and losing 3 Championship games like old Herb.

As BJD said in this entry:

I think Avent has done a pretty good job at NC State, and not THAT far behind the level of success that Ray Tanner had. And in a non-revenue sport (where the coach isn’t being made ridiculously wealthy by my alma mater), I can live with that. Championships are to be celebrated, but not necessarily demanded. What I can’t abide by in a non-revenue sport is the embarrassing level of play we have seen from other programs in recent years. It sure would have been nice to get over the hump, though.

The Wolfpack ultimately had a record eight players picked in the Major League Baseball Draft conducted this week. The Red Sox seemed to like the look of Aaron Bates and John Still in red. (Link to Section Six Entry)
