Dick Doyel’s Days Numbered?

We make no secret of our distaste for the malcontent known as Gregg Doyel. (Link) We often even go so far as to beg Wolfpackers not to feed the troll.

But, the following was recently brought to our attention and we couldn’t ignore it. From Doyel’s May 3rd Mailbag comments :

I always liked you but didn’t know why until I discovered we share the same birthday. Destiny, no doubt. I’m told I have a similar sense of sarcasm that I see in your hate mail. So before a disgruntled Coach K or NCSU fan finally hunts you down, could you will me your spot at CBS SportsLine.com? Please? Please?

Doyel: Truth be told, I’m not long for this job. That’s all I can say about that for now, but if readers want to start speculating that CBS SportsLine.com has finally seen the light about Gregg Doyel, well, they’d be right. As for you, Mike: Happy Birthday.

    Don’t feed the troll.

    Hate to say it but even clicking on his website spot will give him numbers, that is what CBS sports looks at when deciding what writters to promote.

    I’m kind of hoping this post gets taken down.

    In the meantime, however, I think it’s funny that Greggie apparently reads hate mail to see what kind of a moron he is. He admitted as much.

    Getting promoted to writing about all sports will/should hopefully dilute his focus on College Basketball — that would be a good thing.

    All this really means = he now has permission to trash all areas of sports instead of just NCSU and Clemson. Watch out Philadelphia Eagles and KC Royals and all soccer fans

    Well, at least he’s getting promoted. Better than getting fired and ending up on the N&O’s door step so we have to see/read his crap everyday.

    Maybe he ought to get in a fight with a pro athelete. That jump started Jim Rome.

    RE: Rome — I change the channel every day when Rome is on — from 850 the Buzz to 620 (same company sans Rome) or to 1090 in Charlotte.

    If any makes anyone feel better, the Oklahoma fansand Talk Radio guys out here hate Doyels guts as well. (Could have something to do with his little witchhunt on Kelvin Sampsons extra phone calls over the years, a minor infraction but serious enough in the eyes of the NCAA)
    It appears he loves to write the negative stuff to keep those web hits coming.
