Sporting News Report: State Offers Lavin

Nothing on ESPN as of 8:30pm as Andy Katz is still waiting for John Calipari to tell him what to write.

N.C. State offers Lavin coaching job

Former UCLA coach Steve Lavin has been offered the opportunity to return to coaching by the N.C. State Wolfpack.

Lavin has been out of the business for three years and working as a broadcast analyst for ESPN since he was let go by the Bruins following the 2002-03 season, his only losing year as a head coach.

Lavin is working on contract details and has not yet decided whether to accept the job.

Lavin compiled a record of 145-78 in seven seasons as the Bruins’ head coach. He reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament five times in that span, but was criticized by UCLA fans for only once advancing farther and for winning just one Pac-10 championship, in his first season.

BJD95 commentary: How in God’s name could we make ANOTHER offer that we don’t know whether it will be accepted? It’s one thing to have Barnes or Calipari turn you down, but STEVE LAVIN?
