So What Is Your Take on Football This Year

Chuck Amato held a press conferenceon Friday. I didn’t see anything very newsworthy. The Greensboro News & Record says that “Stone lodged atop quarterback depth chart“, but who else would it be?

The following is a link to NC State’s 2006 Football Schedule and a previous conversation. Have you made any observations during spring practice (since we haven’t talked very much football here during basketball?) What’s your take on this football season?

If Tressman can turn Stone into a playmaker we could have a winning season like 7-5, but if Stone plays as he has so far with all the other unanswered questions then look for 4-8 or 5-7. This is not going to be pretty and it could set the stage for more anger when b-ball tips off. Hard to be a Wolfpacker right now!

One thing’s for sure, we can never accurately predict the twists and turns of the season. I do think that this season presents an *opportunity* for Amato. The schedule is relatively easy in that there’s no VT or UM. What should be the toughest opponents- BC and FSU are at home. They key is not coming out flat for all these non-conference games we should win.

If there was ever a chance to coach a mediocre team into a bunch of overachievers, this is it. I haven’t jumped the shark of Amato yet, but this season will tell us a LOT.

9-3 wouldn’t be out of reach. I don’t think we’ll be Clemson, or FSU. BC we could do. Same goes for GT. UNC is losing their QB, and we’re better than them. I could even see this team doing as well as 11-1 10-2 if the defense is as good as last years by some chance. The talent is there, coach it up Chuck.

DC – I think this season will tell us all we need to know. In his 6 seasons, he’s been painfully close to special seasons – however, like basketball, we are incapable of winning that extra game or two to make a season truly special. Hopefully, 2006 will be a special season.

I hope chuck can finally get something accomplished without Philip Rivers, but if he can’t. Just let him keep stocking the cupboard with good quality players until Bill Cowher can get here in a few years and then it we will find out what the school can really do.

Marcus Stone, as a starter, was 5-1. Toney Baker and Andre Brown should split time at running back making for a thunder and lightning punch that will produce, I think, about 1500 yards on the ground. We have a Tramain Hall-type player in Darrell Blackman and a sure-handed guy in Lamart Barrett. Let’s not forget the that John Dunlap is a guy that would have been a household name if it weren’t for his knee injury. This offense should be able to move the football consistently and average 27-30 PPG. There are too many athletes on the defensive side of the ball for it to not be at least somewhat successful. Yes. They lost a TON. However, there are guys in those holes now who are VERY capable athletes. Chuck recruits athletes. You can teach an athlete to play better defense and he can make up for a mistake with his athleticism. We have an offense in place that SHOULD be able to score consistently. Marcus Stone has beaten FSU in Tallahassee. He can win the big game. I think this could be a year where we might want to expect the unexpected from this squad. I am going to say 9 wins maybe 10. Losses come at home to FSU and AT Clemson. Then the Carolina game is exactly that. The Carolina game. It doesn’t matter who the better team is in that game. It’s who comes out and plays on that particular Saturday and this year, I think it could have something to do with what they are playing for with it being so late in the year.
