    Sorry ’74, but 19-5 is not “groundhog day”. Actually, this is our best record in many years.You should know that, considering your age.

    The season isn’t over either!

    I wouldn’t describe GT’s guards as very quick. Frederick is very powerful and difficult to stop from penetrating but he’s far from quick as point guards go. Clinch & Morrow are terrific shooters and good athletes but not very effective at driving to the basket. Teams that hurt us with penetration kill us on the offensive boards. This didn’t happen yesterday; GT only had 4 offensive rebounds.

    ^With the percentage they shot there weren’t that many offensive rebounds to be had! 54% overall and from 3pt. area too. Both teams had 26 rebounds for the game.

    I suspect we are going to see a yer similar to two years ago.
    A good regular season and nothing in the tournaments.
    This team has the potential to be very good but maximizing potential is something Herb has not done since his first year.

    ^I have the same feeling. We are too sloppy with the ball and too inconsistent on defense to go very far. Still this could be Herb’s high watermark.

    74 – You are correct about the small number of rebounds. GT had only 23 missed shots (excluding free throws) with 4 offensive rebounds so they rebounded 17% of their misses. This is a terrific % from NC State’s perspective that can be demonstrated by looking at the previous 3 games:

    Miami – 36 missed shots, 11 offensive rebounds, 31% of misses;

    Maryland – 38 missed shots, 11 offensive rebounds, 29% of misses; and

    UVA – 39 missed shots, 11 offensive rebounds, 28% of misses.

    In my opinion, the reason for these stats is that GT’s guards did not penetrate very well against us. To their credit however, they shot the heck out of ball.
