Pack Not off National Radar

A month ago, we highlighted Clark Kellogg’s projected Sweet 16 for 2006.

If you visit Yahoo Sports’ College Basketball front page today, you will see a picture of Ilian Evtimov and Cedric Simmons and a mention that NC State may not have made Clark’s list, but the Pack is not off the radar.

I know that it is a novel concept for many…but, what a coincidence that the Pack starts to garner some national attention and respect after winning a couple of nice games against Alabama and Miami. The world isn’t really that complicated, is it?

Because of State’s shabby out of conference schedule, the Wolfpack is currently hovering in the mid-50s of the (too early to matter) RPI, but is holding nicely at #20 in the current Sagarin ratings. The schedule over the next couple of weeks provides the Pack the opportunity to set the table for a very nice season.

With the GW game and the first two weeks of ACC games we will know what kind of team this will be.

We also get positive mention in the “Weekly Watch” on ESPN.com

“NC State has quietly put together a stellar nonconference season.”

I’m not sure if I’d go with “stellar” but the publicity is nice.

More respect: We are in ESPN’s Power 16 this week, projecting as a 4 seed right now in the NCAAs.

GW game is looming HUGE right now. Win that one and we definitely crack the top 15, garner some serious national attention, and get a marquee out of conference win that could boost us a seed or two come March.
