Ath Depart Does Good By Fans

Kudos Athletics Department!
SFN doesn’t have a history of holding back criticism of the Athletics Department when we feel it is deserved. Being that we have no agenda outside of honest commentary and analysis, it isn’t nearly as hard as some think for us to offer praise when deserved.

It was announced this week that the Wolfpack’s home match-up with George Washington has been moved from a time that conflicted with State’s bowl game to December 3oth. That is great work and is much appreciated by the entire fanbase, particularly Lifetime Rights Holders (LTR’s).

Unfortunately, State’s Athletics Department doesn’t have a world-beating reputation for its “fan friendly focus”. This year, LTR holders have been grumbling a lot this year in light of the department’s propensity to sell $5 tickets to the general public for the same games that LTR holders pay $27 (after shelling out thousands of dollars for rights to buy tickets). Considering that Herb Sendek annually schedules one of the ACC’s worst out of conference schedules, Wolfpack fans felt they couldn’t catch a break when it was learned that there was such a significant conflict between a ranked George Washington visit and a bowl game.

The department should be praised for working hard with all of the relevant consituencies to get this game moved to a more convenient time for the fanbase.

Aren’t the dates for the ACC bowl tie-ins known long before the BB schedules are put together? If so, let’s hope that an important lesson was learned this year. Since State doesn’t have control of the RBC center, I would imagine that it was extremely difficult to get this change worked out. I’m glad that resolving this conflict received alot of attention and that it was resolved.

So you really think that NC State shouldn’t schedule games on any of the 7 ACC Bowls plus each BCS bowl next year?

I really think that NC State should not schedule any basketball games at the exact same TIME as any bowl games in which we may participate.

At the 1986 Peach Bowl, I remember that they had set up a closed circuit to Atlanta for some of the big wigs to watch Jimmy V’s boys play a game one of the nights that we were down there. It was very neat.

I think that the BCS bowl dates are probably OK. Other than that, it’s a choice or a decision that someone in the AD has to make. If we can’t keep those dates free, then at least schedule the “Stetsons” for those dates.

No they could schedule a game or two just make them road games and that would solve the problem. How many of us travel for road basketball games?
