Is it fair to Davis to keep putting him back in the game? While fans boo at the coaching staff, it does seem strange that the individual is the one set up for this. Just think what might happen this Saturday?

Can Chuck’s ego let him hire a seasoned former HC (might I suggest Steve Logan) as an Associate HC to come in assess the program (ala, Larry Hunter for Herb).

Did our fall begin with CJ Hunter’s dismissal? Just think, we use to brag about conditioning (when STroud and Hunter were S&C coaches). Now, we seem to get pushed around.

The booing thing is challenging. I think that 95% of the fans in the stands that are booing are booing the decisions of the coaches and NOT Jay as an individual. The problem is that there is no way to differentiate between the two.

The CJ Hunter thought is interesting. Didn’t Stroud move into a coaching position at the exact same time that Hunter was dismissed? Could it have been more Stroud than Hunter that was responsible for our conditioning? (Hunter wasn’t around in the first couple of years when we were “tough” and had Stroud.

Hunter didn’t coach this year or last year. (Amato’s two worst years). He was around the previous 2 with a 3rd being in question.

I think the firing of CJ Hunter really bothered the players. Is it a coincidence that discipline problems and disrespect for the coaching staff mushroomed after his dismissal?

Interesting points about what some of the kids would percieve of that situation-points that can be easily lost on white upper middle class football fans.

Why pick only the last 3 games when you could pick all games that Amato has coached against Wake Forest?

Better yet, why wouldn’t you post the results of all games considering that overall results are a much better reflection of which program is getting the most out of their talent? Note the answer might still be Wake Forest, but the results of 3 games is simply incomplete information when the two teams have 3 times that many games played over the last 3 seasons.

Final Sagarin Ranking for NC State:
    2001 – 43
    2002 – 14
    2003 – 26
    2004 – 40
    2005 – 57

    Average: 36th

    Final Sagarin Rankings Wake:
    2001 – 55
    2002 – 42
    2003 – 46
    2004 – 67
    2005 – 62

    Average – 54th

This is much more relevant information to the questions being asked here.

    Great points, O!

Here is an interesting thought about your numbers….Wake has averaged finishing exactly where their average recruiting rankings place them. State is averaging finishes 14 places behind our average recruiting rankings.

JB34: There are clearly coaching issues at NC State. With all the turnover of coordinators and assistants, I don’t think anyone would argue that we don’t have coaching issues. Last year, the blame was laid on Noel Mazzone. He is gone and now people have been much, much easier on Trestman because he is new. However, I don’t think much has changed offensively in terms of results(maybe because we have the same poor OL and the same poor QB?). The DC is also brand new. Now we have a defense that is struggling compared to last year after losing Lamont Reid, Devonte Edwards, Pat Thomas and Andre Maddox to the NFL.

I think most of our struggles on offense and defense make sense with the new coaches, existing personnel and player losses from last year. It is very disappointing that it hasn’t worked so far this year.

The larger issue resolves around Amato as the CEO of NC State football. Can he keep a staff together long enough to develop the continuity that other programs are benefitting from(i.e. Va Tech, UNC)? Can he keep the recruiting going with losing seasons and fan unhappiness?

It will certainly be a struggle.

There is definitely a problem with Wolfpack coaching…especially on offense. Just go back two years and recall how we have a reluctancy to pass the ball downfield(and PR was QB). Only when behind on scoreboard and clock as enemy would we really open up and leverage the passing . This pattern prevails.

And what of #21…the kid who waited so long to play for us; he’s rarely a target for J. Davis.

The team continues to act as if they lack the strong mindedness to quit committing stupid fouls(are these Fla recruits? repeatedly demonstrating lack of discipline and football IQ about what it takes to win.

The last OC, the current OC—jokes. Swing passes, wide receiver screens, o-line not ready to run block, and poor game plans…..worst of all poor game calls…terrible situational coaching. It’s no wonder the offense sucks; they cannot have much confidence week to week in the game plans…..

I could go on and on. We know what needs to be done….don’t we?
