2005 NC State Football Roster

NC State’s initial roster for the 2005 football season has been released and can be viewed by clicking here.

A few random thoughts – some stale, some new, generated by the roster:

===> Bad news – Former Northern Nash and Hinds JC Defensive End, Chad Green, still has not made it to Raleigh.

===> Good news – Former Shelby Crest All-American offensive lineman and University of Tennessee transfer, Brandon Jeffries is listed on the roster, although he was not assigned a number. (Follow-up: Jeffries will not enroll at NC State this year)

===> It looks like Andre Brown ended up with #32 and Toney Baker got #22. You will probably need to know at least one of those numbers this year.

===> In the mold of Chad Green, another North Carolina HS defensive lineman and one of Chuck Amato’s first recruits who had to go the junior college route, Kennie Covington is no longer on the team.

===> Back-up quarterback, Daniel Evans has gained some needed weight and wears #19. Wasn’t that Eddie Goines’ number? Since Goines was starring at NC State when Evans was probably just coming to age of being old enough to really “remember” loving football…I wonder if Eddie was one of his idols?

===> Freshman quarterback, Mike Greco is wearing the Joe-Theisman-esque #7. The same number of wide receiver, Fred Span andRS-Fr, DeJuan Morgan. Hmmm? Obviously Greco is expected to redshirt this year; it will be interesting to see if he keeps this number in the future.

===> Please allow me to introduce you to #83, Marcus Howell. #83 is an odd number for a linebacker. I am sure that you are asking who is Marcus Howell and why do I need to know him? Let’s just wait and see if that question ultimately gets answered on its own.

===> It is good to see James Martin physically cleared and on the roster. If Martin and Stephen Tulloch’s health hold strong and the rest of the linebacking corp avoids any season-ending injuries, the pre-season concern over the position will be proven unwarranted.

===> Orrick Quick from High Point Andrews wears #52. Any chance this is Mike Quick’s son?

===> #44 was given to a punter, Jonathan Macrae.
