Chip Alexander Update On The Temple Game

It is hard to believe that Chip Alexander could get hold of Lee Fowler (since Lee is so media shy) but he did, and here is an update on the Temple game fiasco.

Also here is one aspect of the story you will want to follow.

The Temple contract says $250,000 for a buyout, unless the game can be replaced by a common opponent or an acceptable opponent,” he said.

Will NC State hold Temple to the fire and get paid $250,000 for the buyout?

What amazes me is that NOBODY else (at least nobody similarly situated in a power conference) has the level of persistent scheduling problems that we do. We are told repeatedly that our basketball schedule is weak because “nobody will play us”, despite our ACC affiliation and large arena (which one would think increases the revenue potential for OOC opponents). Now, we have a rash of football opponents bumping us from the schedule, including 3 teams that should consider themselves lucky to get a home-and-home series with a BCS school (Navy, UCF, Temple). Add that to the more expected shenanigans from Louisville and Notre Dame. What in the world is going on here? You would have to be willfully blind not to admit that this looks like a trend. Somebody in the athletic department isn’t doing their job very well.

    From N&O:

Fowler was the athletics director at Middle Tennessee State before coming to NCSU in 2000 but said his past association was not a factor. “I guess someone figured this would be special for me, to play Middle Tennessee,” he said.

    Well of course!

Don’t you all know that all of the collegiate athletics community thinks about Lee Fowler and focuses on Lee Fowler so much that all of these forces are all working towards us playing MTSU because of this one man’s personal relationship with them?

Is there nothing that is not about Lee Fower?

I thought the same thing when I read that, Greg. SURELY, “others” were thinking of Fowler’s past relationship with MTSU…because the world revolves around Fowler.

BJD, very interesting thoughts. I feel like our athletics department is like that defendant on Law & Order or Boston Legal that is the classic “nothing is my fault” defendant who blames the world for our troubles.

As you’ve highlighted, we’ve had a littany of scheduling problems in both sports that NOBODY else seems to have…but it you were to ask anyone within “the circle”, they will quickly tell you that we are not accountable for any of the issues.

^ Good points BJD. We have been jerked around in football scheduling several times in the past 3-4 years.

Is there anything not about Lee Fowler?

Yeah, defending State fans from the yellow journalism of Barry Saunders. Lee was as rare as found money that week.
