N&O: Wolfpack left at a loss

Chip Alexander chimes in on the loss to the worst team in the ACC
. Also, nice job by Chris Seward who got a great photo of the game winning shot by the Cavs.

Additionally, the Letters to the Editor in today’s paper can be found here. Most of them express some displeasure at the recent state of Wolfpack Basketball…and one of them supports Coach Sendek because he is evidentally a great guy.

There’s some bitter irony to the “spread offense” aka Princeton offense only being successful against Mr. Spread Offense himself. The announcers (not to mention the fans) all expressed surprise that Sendek hadn’t done anything to challenge it. One supposes he was too busy being way impressed on the bench. “Whoa, a spread offense — sheer genius!”

If you think reading about it is bad, try being there in person. The 1st half was the worst half of NC State basketball I have ever seen in person (I wasnt in Raleigh for some of those Les losses to Fl Atlantic, etc).

Even after all the unbelievable things that have happened this year (10 point half vs. St. John’s, getting swept by expansion teams, breaking FSU’s 26-game ACC road losing streak), I really didn’t believe this could happen. Pete Gillen is such a bad coach, and he’s doing his worst work this season. What has always kept Herb Sendek afloat, IMHO, has been his ability to consistently take advantage of bad coaches. He has feasted off of the low-hanging fruit, so to speak. To lose a must-win home game to Gillen’s lousy UVA team really defies all words.

I don’t see how anybody can defend Sendek at this point. We have passed beyond any reasonable disagreement.

Trout, I watched the game. This is the first game I’ve subjected myself to since West Virginia. I have been ignoring games until the last 10 minutes or so (the Sanity Defense procedure), then catching up via the message boards what’s happened up to the point where I’m watching. But as I said, I watched this game, because I wanted to see how Herb Sendek was going to be outcoached by Pete Gillen.

And as I suggested during the first half, to appreciate the full awfulness of the basketball being played, you really needed to turn the volume down and play the music from the Keystone Kops.
