ACC Basketball Tips-Off

Since just yesterday we learned that the Atlantic Coast Conference was the best college football conference in 2004, one might think that it would be time to step aside and let another conference have the spotlight for basketball season. But, as we head into the first real weekend of conference cage action, it is clear that the ACC has no plans of stepping aside.

Coming off of the 2003-2004 season that saw the Atlantic Coast Conference achieve the highest RPI ranking in college basketball history, the conference heads into intra-conference play rated #1 in every computer ranking known to man, and currently boasts three of the top five subjectively ranked teams in the country.

Heading into league play the Sagarin Ratings list four ACC Teams in the current Top 10. NC State logs in at #59 in the country and the 8th place team in the ACC.

After Friday’s games, the current RPI rates ACC teams as follows:
(#2) Wake Forest
(#3) Boston College (enters the ACC next year)
(#6) Duke
(#12) Virginia
(#14) Georgia Tech
(#22) North Carolina
(#46) Clemson
(#63) Maryland
(#101) NC State
(#109) Miami
(#155) Florida State
(#211) Virginia Tech
