AP: Sit, wait part of Rivers’ course

Philip Rivers’ introduction to life in the NFL was the same as for most newly rich rookies.
His veteran San Diego Chargers teammates took him along to dinner at a fancy steakhouse in La Jolla and, as is tradition, made the young multimillionaire quarterback pick up the check – for a whopping $25,000.
The Chargers haven’t needed Rivers since.

Certainly one may say, ‘Freedom to speak or write can be taken from us by a superior power, but never the freedom to think!’ But how much, and how correctly, would we think if we did not think, as it were, in common with others, with whom we mutually communicate! by roulette

Tudor on ACCNow blog: Calipari watch

The Tigers’ coach on Monday was offered a salary increase from a potential $1.5 million annually to about $1.9 million, which is close to the package being floated by the Wolfpack.

State’s offer is in the $2 million annual range for the next five or six seasons.

There is no deadline for Calipari to make a decision, but both sides expect an answer before the end of the week.

Calipari tours Raleigh campus with assistant coaches ( Updated: April 10, 2006, 8:59 PM ET)

Memphis coach John Calipari, who has been in negotiations with the university about increasing the value of his current contract, visited North Carolina State with his staff Monday, a source close to Calipari told ESPN.com.

The source said Calipari and his staff boarded a private jet to Raleigh on Monday afternoon to look at the Wolfpack’s facilities. Later in the day, the source was told that the coach and his assistants were touring NC State’s campus and were planning to fly back to Memphis on Monday night.
