3pm Football Update: Amato This Is A Season Of Inches
2pm
Every Monday two NC State players and Coach Amato have a press conference.
A local beat reporter just sent us the following via blackberry:
•NC State Press teleconference threatened to be cut short if any questions were asking about the NC State coaching situation.
•Press asked not to ask any questions regarding “hypothetical” questions or the interview would be ended.
•Lee Fowler will not address any coaches questions until after the season.
2:30pm
Amato in upbeat mood at Monday press conference.
Opening Question: Is the program in crisis?
“On the outside the program, we have lost games, and do we like it? No, because losing in anything we don’t like it. If there is a crisis I haven’t seen it. “
•We are not satisfied with what happening this year, we have lost a lot of close football games.
The difference between winning and losing between games is not much. Amato goes on to refer to
VT’s first season in the ACC.
•Look at the fantastic job Wake Forest has done this year, they have won a lot of close games. The last
two years, they lost a lot of close games. There is a fine line. Also, look at the University of Maryland
this season. The line is just so close.
•This is a season we are not happy with, but next year, who knows, there are a million examples out there.
•Nobody is going to change me. I try to stay upbeat. Anytime you lose to a rival it hurts, it hurts.
•Amato mentions that stats are for losers, then goes on to mention that UNC had 2 yards rushing in the 4th quarter.
•This is has been a season of inches.
•I will take the responsibility on winning and losing. You will never hear me point the finger at a staff member or a player.
•Reporter asks Amato about his job status, and Vaughn ends the press conference.

[...] Chuck Amato’s weekley Monday press conference created a lot of controversy. A reporter kindly sent SFN comments shortly after the PC was over to post on the web. In fact it was one of the main reasons the SFN server blew up. [...]

God bless the blackberry.
Now I can’t wait for Amato’s coaching to be as efficient. (or Cowher’s )

Move may be afoot to fire Amato
Hasty meeting today to review performance
However, it’s talking about New Orleans schools Superintendent Tony Amato …
“This is has been a season of inches.”
So it’s possible we could be 1-10 rather than 3-8. That door swings both ways Chuck.
You really fooled me, beowolf!
“NC State Press teleconference threatened to be cut short if any questions were asking about the NC State coaching situation.”
I wonder if they’ll cut it short if any questions about the AD situation are asked?
wow, chuck needs to be smacked in the face
More of A. Vaughan’s excellent media management, I presume.
What a stupid threat.
There has to be some sort of annoucement made to address this issue. Either to quiet everyone, or to move forward. The waiting period is no good for any party involved.
It’s Hard Out Here for a Coach
Was he drunk?
“I will take the responsibility on winning and losing. You will never hear me point the finger at a staff member or a player.”
That is true right there, and its one reason why I always root for Chuck. He really tries to keep the mud of his guys. He takes a lot of mud because of it as well.
I wont defend his record. It cannot be done, but a lot of coaches (like at FSU) have no problem throwing 20 year old QB’s under the bus to protect themselves(or their sons). I really like Chuck. I like how he stands up and takes the bullets for his kids. He protects them like they were his own. Which just makes all of this even sadder. Its just a bad situation that is only made worse by the presence of an AD like Jed.
“Reporter asks Amato about his job status, and Vaughn ends the press conference.”
Classic. I hope they report this part everywhere.
Vaughn is an idiot, who works for an idiot.
Our PR/media relations are a laughingstock.
What lunatic idiocy! Can we have some REAL professionals in the NCSU administration any time soon!!
Good point Cardiff, why don’t we just plant the seed of speculation in the media’s mind that his status is at issue and let it fester for the next few days. That way, we’ll be sure to get nothing but poor publicity concerning the tenuous state of the program.
Geez our administrators never cease to amaze me.
Amato can’t possibly hang on. Ive heard the Kragthorpe talk from Tulsa and he may want to stay, but why isn’t anybody talking about the guy that mainly built the Tulsa program Todd Graham? (now in 1st season as Rice Head Coach) First season at Rice led them to first winning season in years. Toughest recruiting standards in country. Was d-coord at Tulsa the last 3 seasons while watching them improve from 1-11 in ’02 to 8-4 in ’03 with no.22 defense. Rick Neuheisel might work too.
he needs a cock smack upside the head
I’ve never been one to defend reporters, but I sure as heck would have been on their side today.
Just to spite the university I would have begged to asked the first question which would have been about Amato’s job status. Someone should have called them on this from the get-go just to see how they respond.
Thats if the Cowher/Chow option falls through.
Oh God, the worse that could happen has happened. This press conference spirals into an absolute disgrace, coach storms out of the room.
Nice work Annabelle. Nice work.
Incidentally, PackPride appears to be thoroughly swamped/crashed. I can’t get in.
We now look like the circus that we are. Not even a veil can disguise it.
Clean house Oblinger. Now!
yeah, PP = pwnd
Poor Annabelle. She should be advising a high school newspaper. She’s truly out of her depth.
“he needs a cock smack upside the head”
There is no need for this kind of comment.
