NC State vs San Diego: Pack wins in good fashion

Wolfpack battles San Diego on some of the Fox Sports Net channels today at noon.

Wanted to open this entry for anyone who wanted to discuss.

18:40 — LESLIE PASSED!! LESLIE PASSED!! For maybe the first time this year, CJ Leslie had the ball within 6 feet of the basket, started to make and offensive move…and, actually passed the ball! The results were great – DeShawn Painter gets fouled and hits two free throws.

17:19 — All NC State. Key has been DEFENSIVE REBOUNDING. Pack getting the ball off the defensive boards and out on transition. And hitting free throws.

NC State 8 San Diego 0

15 mins — Tracy Smith in the game!! Hits his first shot since returning while getting fouled.

NC State 12 San Diego 5

11 mins — NC State 16 San Diego 6 Tracy Smith playing and is active. 4 points in last 3 minutes. Pack getting defensive rebs. SD only 1 FG in gme.

NC State 22 San Diego 8 with 10 minutes in the first half.

2:36 mins — NC State 39 San Diego 19

This FSCarolinas HD is like being home last weekend and my folks insisting on watching the SD channels on their 50″ plasma. All they’ve done is stretch out the SD feed to fit HD.

someone needs to teach CJL how to shoot. He fires from his waist. Terrible form. Just terrible.

Shame it’s not #7 San Diego State we’re playing, another quality loss could do us some good. Surely, I jest.

Lorenzo Brown is a beast. Just in case the other two of you watching this game didn’t notice.

Oh yeah, I saw it. AWESOME

  6. GameOfInches 01/01/2011 at 1:01 PM #

    Welcome back, indeed!

    WELCOME BACK MR SMITH

  8. LRM 01/01/2011 at 1:02 PM #

Tracy Smith entered the game to roaring applause from the dozens in attendance.

    Lorenzo Brown’s dunk was amazing

So, is Tracy finally healthy? Or did he finally get out of Sid’s doghouse? Any educated guesses?

  11. Wufpacker 01/01/2011 at 1:25 PM #

At least we seem to be rebounding better today, even if we can’t shoot to save our lives outside the paint. Howell a monster on the boards so far (too bad he can’t shoot).

  12. Wufpacker 01/01/2011 at 1:27 PM #

Heh, maybe they heard me about not being able to shoot outside the paint.

  13. GameOfInches 01/01/2011 at 1:29 PM #

I know, right? Tracy has improved defensively IMO. It nice not to have any critical statements, at least for the moment.

Rebounding has been better. Richard Howell has been playing well. It appears Howell plays much better opposite Smith than he does DeShawn Painter.

It becomes more and more evident that the Wolfpack offense is more potent with Ryan Harrow on the floor and Javi on the bench

What’s up with Scott Wood? He’s only taken two shots (both 3pt, both missed). I’d wonder if he had the flu, but he got 17 mins PT in the first half so I guess it’s not the flu.

We gotta develop at least some degree of an outside game and keep D’s honest, or we might not win but two games in conference (Wake x2, LOL).

Scott is hitting nearly half of his attempts from behind the arc for the season, that’s pretty good but, you’re right, someone else needs to pick it up as well. I thought Brown was supposed to be an accurate 3 pt shooter.

Not getting excited yet, but they have played a lot better as a team the last two games; even taking into account quality of competition.

  19. GameOfInches 01/01/2011 at 2:03 PM #

Vandy hasn’t hit the court yet, and we’re winning! Any coincidence?

  20. SoUrTellinMeTheresAChance 01/01/2011 at 2:04 PM #

I remember getting excited like this last year and calling the duke upset, so this year I’m calling for us to sweep UNX

  21. SoUrTellinMeTheresAChance 01/01/2011 at 2:08 PM #

seems like they are starting to get the confidence they should have

  22. Wufpacker 01/01/2011 at 2:09 PM #

^ While I’d love it we could sweep those baby blue bastards, I can’t say that I’m necessarily excited. That being said, I’m certainly more pleased with the effort today (thus far) compared to Delaware freaking State.

  23. Wufpacker 01/01/2011 at 2:19 PM #

Statefans: Agreed re: Harrow > Gonzalez. Despite starting, Harrow has only played about 12 mins, but has 2 asst, O TO, 6 pts. Javy has played nearly 20 mins off the bench with 2 asst, 2 TO, 4 pts.

And that’s not even taking into account the intangibles, which IMHO Harrow gets the nod hands down.

  24. GameOfInches 01/01/2011 at 2:22 PM #

I’m just wondering if anyone thinks that we should start Howell and TSmith (either @ 4 or 5) come conference time? Would that be enough athleticism on the front court, along with CJL?

Or should CJL come off the bench? Any thoughts?

  25. Wufpacker 01/01/2011 at 2:25 PM #

^ Start him in place of whom? Wood or Brown? If he’s going to start, I think he should go instead of CJL, not in addition to him.
