Sound Familiar?

From today’s Charlotte Observer‘s coverage of the Big South Tournament:

“The officials called 25 fouls in the first half, and referee Ted Valentine seemed to be calling all of them. He wasn’t, but the way hehammed things up after every whistle turned the attention to him.”

TV Teddy…He hasn’t realized that a great called game is one where the refs are not really part of the discussion after the fact. It is amazing how much more enjoyable the games are when the refs are not in the picture.

I watched the Texas-Texas A&M game this week (amazing game) and thought the refs did a pretty solid job for the most part. Here is the kicker…I did not even realize until the start of the first OT that Larry Rose & Mike Wood were on the crew. Yes…that Larry Rose & Mike Wood….

The only thing I can figure is that some of these guys simply have a hard time putting away their personal feelings (for teams and coaches) when they don the whistle in the ACC. It was nice to see them actually call the game like professionals…too bad professionalism seems to get skewed by favoritism & intimidation on the ACC hardwood.

Keydets “go down” today dudes! Not enough size, speed, or ability to soar with the Winthrop Eagles!

Gotta read that article this morning to see which game he was talking about. There were some very questionable calls in the second game, but they weren’t foul calls, but blantant errors in calling the ball “out of bounds” on the wrong player. Marshall got a “T” on the first one it was so bad.

[…] I was pretty excited to see the Greg Oden vs Roy Hibbert clash on Saturday. Unfortunately, it never developed because the officials were so keen on letting you know that they were in charge and they weren’t going to have these big men upstaging them! Don’t you know that the game is their sand box?! Does that sound familiar? […]
