Pack Gets 10th Seed; The Maryland Entry (Updated Sun)

N.C. State will play the #7 seed on Thursday at 7 pm. If the Pack wins, we would play the #2 seed on Friday at 7 pm

Currently – Duke, Georgia Tech, Florida State and Clemson could all end up as the ACC’s 7th seed. If Georgia Tech loses today against Boston College, then Duke would be guaranteed the 6th seed regardless of the result of the Blue Devils’ game with Carolina.

If you want to follow who could earn the 2nd seed then you should click here.

In short

* VIRGINIA is the second seed if one of UNC, BC and VPI win.

* NORTH CAROLINA will be the second seed if they defeat Duke and VPI beats Clemson.

* BOSTON COLLEGE will be the second seed with a win over Georgia Tech and a Virginia Tech loss to Clemson.

* VIRGINIA TECH becomes the second seed with a win over Clemson, a BC win over Georgia Tech and a Tarheel loss to Duke.

Wolfpack Gets #10 Seed
Who would have thought that the Miami-FSU game would actually mean something to us? But, the Seminoles come from behind win over the Hurricanes was pretty big for the Wolfpack’s season as now:

(1) NC State is guaranteed the 10th seed in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament (two seeds better than was projected by the media at the beginning of the season)

(2) Florida State still holds hope that they can play their way into the NCAA Tournament and help clear another ACC team from the radar of the NIT.

Relatedly, Joe Lunardi of ESPN’s Bracketology currently projects Georgia Tech IN the NCAA Tournament as one of the “last four in”.

Maryland Game Entry
Sidney Lowe says that the Pack is still full of fight and not ruling out a run towards the NCAA Tournament. We will all see if the Dr. Jeckyll-Wolfpack team that likes to takes the floor today in College Park where the Pack is a 15 point underdog to the hottest team in America. Don’t forget that the Miami loss also ensures that the Pack can’t finish tied for last. Regardless of tiebreakers, I think that’s an important accomplishment.

If we win, who could we play in round 2?

SFN: Whomever ends up with the #2 seed – UVa, UNC, VPI or BC

  3. BJD95 03/03/2007 at 3:21 PM #

It will be VT as long as the Hokies and Cavs win this weekend. Cavs are choking.

We do not match up particularly well with the Twerps

    Wolfpack women beat Dook. Sweet.

I know this is off the thread; however, I think it should be noted that the State Women just knocked off the previously undefeated and #1 ranked Duke Blue Devils in the ACC tournament. They have moved onto the final game against either Maryland or UNX.

Way to go women, playing inspired ball lately.

    Way to go Coach Yow!

  8. WolfPup35 03/03/2007 at 4:33 PM #

How ’bout those girls, they played the most inspired game I have seen in a long time, down 14-2 early, down by 11 twice, two key players in foul trouble, one with multiple injuries, no big deal…..NCSU 70 DU 65. You gotta LOVE it!

  9. Wulfpack 03/03/2007 at 4:36 PM #

Wolfpack Women just shocked the word!

    Kay Yow is simply inspirational.

Karl Ravich just said ” The year of the Yow”…that’s pretty sweet. Hope we get the Heels tomorrow

I switched over and watched the end of that also. It’s obvious that Coach Yow has the respect of her fellow ACC coaches. I can’t imagine Dean Smith or Coach K hugging Sid (or V). Well, maybe Coach K but not Dean.

Can see the game so watching stats on CNNSI …
Down 6 at the half, we’re shooting 38% and they’re shooting 50%. Not that bad.
Anyone recommend a better site for more detailed live stats?

Have we had a player since Damon Thornton who gets more inconsistent fouls called against him on defense while not getting anything close to proper treatment on offense than Brandon Costner?

I have noticed it throughout the ACC season and it was evident again in today’s first half.

Hey, the Deacs beat the Cavs! Just when you thought the Cavs had it locked up. I love college hoops!!

Short on talent and depth…head scratching foul calls in the first 10 minutes…Our best scorer and rebounder out most of the half with foul trouble…Fells still hasn’t found his shot, again…38% vs. 50% shooting…and we’re still only down by 6 at the half. I’d have to say, it’s not our best performance but we’re within reach. I hope for the best but unless we start scoring better (i.e. more) we unfortunately will tie Wake for 10th place.

Winthrop’s win helps us to get to the NIT. One less small conference regular season champ going to the big dance.

  17. Mr O 03/03/2007 at 5:07 PM #

Costner is unbelievable. He deserves all-ACC consideration over McCauley IMO.

  18. Mr O 03/03/2007 at 5:08 PM #

Statefans: Agree on Costner not getting any respect on the offensive end. He doesn’t get many calls.

Games of interest for State: (RSC – Regular Season Champ)
    E.Tenn.ST. (RSC) vs. Belmont
Austin Peay (RSC) vs. E. Kentucky
    Davidson (RSC) vs. Charleston

  20. 1.21 Jigawatts 03/03/2007 at 5:23 PM #

We don’t appear to be cutting into the lead yet we’re not going away. Wonder who will give first??

  21. PapaJohn 03/03/2007 at 5:27 PM #

71-54, they’re running away from us.

  22. Mr O 03/03/2007 at 5:29 PM #

Oh well…we just don’t have the horses this year.

Hopefully the Pack women can play another great game tomorrow.

This is a link to the gametracker for the ECU/State baseball game. It is 4-4 in the bottom of the 7th.

Hate to say it but they’re (Maryland) gooooooonnnee.

  24. tooyoungtoremember 03/03/2007 at 5:41 PM #

That little stat about the twerps being 6-0 against NC teams this year makes me sick. I hate them and their fans almost as much as the tarholes.

  25. Wulfpack 03/03/2007 at 5:44 PM #

Maryland outrebounded the Pack 41-29 today, 16 offensive. Not good.

I project we are squarely on the NIT bubble and have a must win Thursday if we want the season to go on. GT, FSU and Clemson will all get nods ahead of us if any don’t make the big dance. I personally don’t think any deserve to go as it stands today.
