Would Chow be a better choice?

  2. quypack93 12/05/2006 at 12:00 PM #

i hope the article has lot of truth to the search. we need to offer the man the position now. he is the best candidate out of all the candidates that have been mentioned on all the blog sites and newspapers.

    get jimbo fisher

  4. 98st8 12/05/2006 at 12:02 PM #

I find it interesting that ESPN says that Neinas has not contacted Jimbo or Chow but David Glenn says otherwise…I don’t think this is anything new

I did not know this, but Navy beat ECU this year.

No shit! I think everyone in the world knows that there were only 2 “real” candidates for the job & one of them has said no.

we better get him now, before alabama gets desprite. he is on their list as well

Could it be ESPN is just reiterating what we already know? Honestly, I trust David Glenn more than Schaulbach. DG’s update today

Did anybody here see the first half of the Army/Navy game on Saturday?

If anybody saw that crapola of an offense and still wants Johnson as our next coach…..I dont even know what to say. How do you reason with unreasonable people?

^ Again, I share your concern, but I don’t think the man ran a run offense at GS and definitely did not at Hawaii.

Did anybody read the article linked?

“…reputation of an offensive guru, running a pass-happy spread formation with the Rainbows and triple-option running attack with the Midshipmen.”

You can believe Johnson will run the ball here 19 times out of 20 if you wish, but the evidence clearly suggests otherwise.

he will be able to change the offense with the type of players he has here. He is dealing with a total different player at navy. Partialqualifier, did you ever see any of his georgia southern teams play when he had petterson. My friend the man can put up some points, don’t critize the man quite yet. He will have way better athletes here at NC STATE. He pretty much runs what flordia runs, but more running because he dosn’t have the athletes.

“Pass happy” and “triple option” in the same sentence sounds damn good to me…PJ is not a “one course horse”.

DG said this is worth repeatin’, so I’m repeatin’ it:

We have confirmation that many, many coaches are interested in the NCSU vacancy. We also have confirmation that the interest is being reciprocated in at least two cases. But that does NOT necessarily mean they’re the only candidates, and in fact I would be absolutely shocked if they were.

I’m not concerned so much about the style of offense, because I am not silly enough to think that he wouldn’t adapt. I know he will. But the only place he has thrown it around a little was at Hawaii, and I dont know all the circumstance there. But they were a predominantly rushing team at GS and this Navy offense is putrid. If you want to run it 45 times a game….fine. But his QB had only thrown 38 passes all season!! And they had lost some games. If you dont feel you can pass very well thats fine, but dont just run FB dives when ur down 20 in the third quarter! And how many times in the Army game did he hand off up the middle on 3rd and long? Every time. No one is saying he needs to be Norm Chow, but if you’re QB cant attempt a pass on 3rd an 12 from the Army 25 what the hell is he doing on the field?

  16. cpwolfpackfan 12/05/2006 at 12:16 PM #

he dosn’t have any talent at navy, I promise you that the navy qb could not even walk on here. I know our quarterback sisuation isn’t the best, but these guys are cadits first and football players second. I haven’t played in 5 years and can promise you I am a better “QB” than the navy qb, he may be a better athlete, he probley didn’t even play qb in high school

  17. Cardiff Giant 12/05/2006 at 12:16 PM #

^ His quarterback was a stand in for a guy who was injured. Right?

  18. cpwolfpackfan 12/05/2006 at 12:17 PM #

you work with what you got

  19. quypack93 12/05/2006 at 12:17 PM #

partialqualifier, so you judge a coach on that game, did you see usc’s game against ucla? i bet they are calling for pete carroll’s head in souther cal now. did you see wake/gt’s game? when is jim grobe going to get canned at wake. rediculous.

  20. Texpack 12/05/2006 at 12:18 PM #

Let’s hope he goes back toward the Hawaii approach if he come to Raleigh. LF wants this search over quickly. If we wait too long and WVU opens up it might really drag things out.

  21. DIXIE Wolf 12/05/2006 at 12:19 PM #

Do you really thing PJ would enter the ACC to show off his triple-option? No way. He’s been called a genious and I’m sure he plans to defend this “compliment” which he hears so often. Maybe he’ll invent something new and it will be given the name “East Coast Offense”.

Bama is meeting with RR today in NYC per ESPN radio.

  22. quypack93 12/05/2006 at 12:25 PM #

a good coach doesn’t make fish ride a bicyle and elephans jet ski. a good coach adapt his talents according to their strength. what offense did george welch run at navy? what offense did tressel run at youngstown. you coach to win football games, not to please some armchair quarterbacks. the man has won games everywhere he goes. we have been through two year debacle that was the trestman “nfl” offense and some people still haven’t learned.

  23. Cardiff Giant 12/05/2006 at 12:26 PM #

    ^ Good point.

  24. Sam92 12/05/2006 at 12:33 PM #

PJ’s ability to draw in top-level talent with a run offense is a legit concern –

but – that concern assumes that he won’t be able to successfully modify his offense for some more firepower. i’m more optimistic than that. maybe i’m crazy

but even if he couldn’t get the top top talent, he’s so solid that i think he could still deliver 8 or 9 wins a season and the occasional challenge for the acc championship

he could do that without having to win recruiting against USC/Texas/Florida/Michigan etc.

in short – so what if PJ’s style can’t result in regular contention for the national championship. if can win consistently 8 or 9 and maybe the occasional year better (and worse), i can accept it.

anyone who has higher expectations/demands – more power to you, it’d be great if we could get it
