Bad decision, but at least he hit the freebies.

Cat’s decision to drive the lane when it was open was the correct one. You don’t hold a lead trying to run a four corners unless your a pussy. Besides isn’t what he did the exact thing people have been bitching about him not doing?

Given the overall situation (ie, the time factor) in the game, I’ll have to disagree. It was time to kick it back out, reset, and bleed some clock; not force a shot in the paint against a bigger defender. And he wouldn’t have been fouled had the lane been open.

    But that’s how we learn.

His speed means the lane to me was open cause either he blows by the bigger guy or he is fouled. I see it as an aggressive move that I like him to take. The time was short but Duke was still in it at that time.

Yes they were, which is why in this particular situation I would have preferred if he had backed it back out and bled clock.

But granted, most of the time I too would prefer to see an aggressive Cat. And it worked out fine since he drained a pair.

Our bigs were giant today. They were not in Hooville.

It’s almost like MG uses bad games as a learning/teaching experience. I really am starting to like him. No coincidence that Cat was the guy he singled out to embrace after the final whistle.

    I like Gott too.
I have said all along that an increase in our defense and we could move into the upper tier of the acc. Something I have not seen consistently use, just in spurts.

I felt like trying to slow it down was a major contributing factor in Duke’s rally.

In all fairness, no one was calling for Mark to be fired. After a few games of misserable, unfocused basketball and tough losses, it’s reasonable to question the coaching.

Beating Duke, while a HUGE, win just furthers some points already made: we need to move the ball more, we need to box out, run the floor, play better D, make FTs, etc. We did all those things that we haven’t done in the losses (the main one being passing the ball and moving more).

We FINALLY corrected those things, and pulled out a win. Not settling for mediocrity isn’t asking to reset the whole program. We rose to the challenge-players AND coaches-which is all disgruntled fans were asking for.

Now, we just need to do it again. One game is a STEP in the right direction. We need to make this a habit.

Agreed that in general we started pulling back way too soon. 7+ minutes to go IIRC.

I don’t think we let them back in on purpose, but I think we were trying to eat clock, got tentative, and Duke capitalized.

    In short, yes.

Agree. Duke’s D / pressure had something to do with it, but the air went out of the ball a bit much imo.

Playing not to loose is the basketball equivalent of the ‘pervert’ defense in football. On this Greg Anthony and I agree that a team should continue to do what got them the big lead.

We won despite Duke taking 16 more shots and get 8 more FTs attempt. I guess that translates into a good KenPom Off Eff.
