I Fear Not The House Of Deacon. But Just In Case…

There are places in this world that exhude a strange and negative energy…places of my youth, where certain turns in the road or hollows always had an unsettling aura as if they echoed deeper vortexes of a dark or foreboding universe… oft in broad daylight. The poet in me is most sensitive to these, but the warrior in me is not.

Native American shamans used sage burning for the first known time in history. They used it in their shamanistic rituals and ceremonies. They also used to burn sage to heal, to remove negative energy.

The first meaningful group to arrive at any college football, gameday venue, is the training staff. They van in, replete with every tape, every extra pad, suture, mouthpiece, cleat, towel, jersey, jock, sock…it’s really quite a traveling medicine show.

These guys are students of the universe, uncaring of the X and O. They are suppliers of the existential, the stuff fans don’t get to see from seats at the stadium, or couches…Modern day shamans!

The warrior in me hopes they bring a whole lotta sage to burn Saturday.

Why did we run that play and not ground the ball?

Because Dave Doeren is an idiot that’s why. Our play calling is terrible all game long.

    Well hell.

IS THE ONLY “STRATEGY” THAT MAKES ANY F’ING SENSE…

I can see that if you have the lead. You score, all good. You don’t score, you’ve left the opponent a long field. Down 6 with ~ 2 minutes to go, I’ll take a TD anytime it’s there.

Refs did NOT lose this game….PLEEZE do NOT start that. Drop balls and poor secondary coverage lost this game which if not for a stupid fumble on goal line we would be not even mentioning that. UNC will come to our house and throw, throw and throw. What could have been a game to look forward to now is one I dread. We are cursed.

    And that’s the BALLGAME!!!

We outplayed ’em … holding ’em to NINE points in the second half…

    THIS ONE IS ON COACH…
    not the Team…

AND that’s all I’m going to say ’bout dat…

    except this…
    We’ve built a good program.
    We’re getting the talent.
But… we ain’t going no further until we learn how to game coach and win when we should win and win when shouldn’t…

This game was ours when we threw that homerun pass that didn’t connect in the 3rd…
and we just kept trying to get that right INSTEAD of playing Football

    The Old Fashioned Way…
    POUND THEM INTO SUBMISSION

    504 total yds don’t mean SH#T when you lose…

    Over-thrown balls and drops…couple that with head-scratching play calling=loser.

Why do throw in the middle of the field with no timeouts? Then don’t spike it. Then roll out and kill all kinds of time. Unreal. Damn I’m pissed.

I’m not even mad at the kid trying to make a play. At least it was an effort play. He fumbled. It happens.

Finely go to the NFL or wherever you want to go.

    Can’t turn the ball over.

There are 6 plays that stood between State and a very good season. I’m not questioning any calls, lucky sperm club can be a difficult place to play. The calls were right to get the winning score with 1:50 in the clock but the fumble sealed that.

Beat the sodomites next week and finish out at 8-4, 6-2.

The freshman, 15, got smoked tonight.

If you think that kind of game planning in the final seconds is ok then you can have it. That was completely horrible. Unacceptable to me.

Any decent team could have gotten TWO more plays if you spiked the ball there!!!! Throw to the sidelines or incomplete passes. We had downs to spare. What in the he## did I just watch happen?

Like someone said above, we didn’t get a good angle to determine if Emeka crossed the plane with control of the ball. But someone must have had the angle because that was the shortest review in history. I think it should be called the Swofford Review.

    Agree on the spike.

    You get two shots.

I expect that call came down from up top. So be it.

    Observations from this game:

ACC officiating IS straight up horrible. There were so many instances tonight of bad officiating on both sides. The big one being our touchdown that was taken away. There was never any still frame or slow motion replay of him breaking the plane shown. It looked pretty clear to me that he broke the plane. If instant replay is going to be used, it should be mandatory to have goal line cameras on each side of the field. Our play calling was so bad. We should’ve spiked the ball so we could’ve ran two plays instead of a 45 yard hail mary at the end. All night we ran the ball against the grain instead of into free space. Wake was better than us pretty much the whole game. We just kept clinging to life. They deserved to win. I have never been a fan of Dave Doeren. He reminds me so much of Chuck Amato. Good talent but his players get bone head penalties at the worst possible times. This points to a lack of discipline. He has a team with some of the most experience in the NCAA and the best we can do is maybe going to be 8-4 in the regular season? Unacceptable losses to USC & Wake. UNC just blew out WCU so they are felling confident. So what happens with them next week? If Doeren loses that game he is seriously underperforming and it will be time for him to hit the road. There was just no reason to lose this game tonight.

I totally agree with you Wolfanatic. They spent more time reviewing the catch after the passer roughing than the touchdown fumble. Also, in the previous possession Wake had a catch that was right on the ground on 3rd or 4th down and there was no review. I kept saying to myself “time out for review” but it never happened. I was just sitting on my couch in disbelief. If I had only seen this once in my life it would be shocking but I must say, after years and years of this at the end of games, I am not surprised really. I knew the outcome long before this game ended.

I get it, but Finley has to own this to a degree. He didn’t give them every chance to score. He lost his head big time. I would rather take a incompletion than throw over the middle for 5 yards with no time outs. Then on the next play not spike it. If you don’t spike it then get rid of it quick towards the sideline. Have another play. Don’t roll out and hold the ball what seemed like an eternity. Sorry he screwed the chance to win this one.

Finley threw behind the first down with no time outs. My High quarterback knows better than that!
