Gottfried discusses V Foundation, Coach K history on Sportscenter

For those of you who may have missed it this morning — Coach Gott was on Sportscenter this morning reflecting on last week’s stunning win over Duke, and his history with Coach K. The Wolfpack’s young team managed to stall out Coach K’s 1000th win (he currently sits at 998). So far, Gottfried has coached 18 seasons, and amassed 361 wins.

He also spoke on the Infiniti Coaches’ Charity Challenge, which is an awesome opportunity for coaches and charities across the country. Keeping with tradition, Coach Gottfried has chosen to represent The V Foundation.

“Being at NC State, with the Jimmy V Foundation, it has affected so many people in a positive way…For us the Jimmy V Foundation makes sense and we just want to help in any way that we can.”

Gottfried is currently holding the spot at 14th place, while former Wolfpack star, and head coach at Dayton, Archie Miller is currently in 10th place on the leaderboard. Log in with your ESPN account (they’re free to make if you don’t have one already) and vote each day for Gottfried. Votes are tallied each day, and the coach with the most votes by March 16 wins $10,000 for their chosen charity.

    Thanks for the update.

In my opinion, Gottfried’s program has been excellent at PR and being ‘visible’ since he arrived (arroved) in Raleigh. Aside from game telecasts, Gottfried gets the program on the Espn networks quite a bit with all-access segments and interviews like this.

Gott represents us well on TV. I wonder if it is just his personality and he has always been comfortable on camera, or if spending a couple of years being a TV guy did it for him? At the least, it probably helped him get better at it.

I did not recall that he’d been recruited by Coach K, but K decided to go with Johnny Dawkins instead. Crazy.

We need to figure out how to win two in a row. We’ve alternated winning and losing the last 10 games. These next two are RPI builders, and then the following 3 are RPI bruisers. Need to get on a roll!!
