Wolfpack sophomore forward TJ Warren has been named a pre-season All-American by CollegeInsider.com.  He is one of only seven sophomores to be named to the list of 22 players.

The list of 22 players also comprises the watch list for the Lute Olson National POY Award, an honor which Miami’s Shane Larkin took home last season.

That sounds good, but we all remember last year’s pre-season honors.

    POY – CJL
    ROY – Purvis
    Top 6 ranking

We certainly need TJ to live up to the hype to do much this year. We’re rooting for you big guy!!

Thing that’s nice about TJ is his versatility. As a wing he flashed some nice touch from outside and he’s physically stronger than a lot of 3’s out there to defend. If a team does have a great lockdown wing defender than TJ can slide into a “stretch” 4 where he should be able to embarrass some common sized bigs. I personally hope we see him used more in the latter because we are so inexperienced in the front court.

Jury still out on Gottfried. Upgrade over the last two, no doubt, but I’ve yet to see much defense. What exactly did he learn in his coaching sabbatical? Not convinced the drive to win it all is still there, or the ability to learn from mistakes. He can recruit elite stahs, but can he recruit role players and complementary pieces and retain them, glue guys, character guys? Next two years will tell a lot, after that, no excuses.

Good for TJ and I hope he has a great season.

That said, our program hasn’t exactly had the best of times with “expectations” over the last 40 years. I know the collectives are working to change that, but you’re certainly not alone out there if you get a knot in your stomach every time you see “preseason accolades” + “NC State” together.

I have a lot more faith in TJ to live up to these expectations than other more selfish or “mercurial” players. It seemed to me last year that whenever he got minutes he got busy and even when he wasn’t scoring buckets he was working his butt off away from the ball.

Not fair to other guys until you see how to and others develop… judging by his pt lo brown did everything asked of him.

That is a sure fired season buster unless he can keep his head on his shoulders and not listen to the pendents.

Like most freshman .. Cuz had some good games last season and then there were moments when …. let’s say …. ‘his mind seemed to be elsewhere’….

To make end of season AA…. we’ll need to see two things….

The ‘A’ game most every night for 32 plus minutes….
and steady improvement in all areas of the game as the season progresses….

Needless to say… As Cuz goes, so goes the Pack.

To put that another… if the same guy starts and finishes this season that finished last season… it ain’t going happen…. for either T.J. or the team….

There are 21 other players on that watch list. Who the heck did they leave out? Even McAdon’t made the cut!

    Nice, but no big deal.
