New Midfield Logo for The Carter?

Also see: While we are talking about copied logos

For you folks who don’t do The Twitter or might be in bed before this made the rounds, there were rumors flying that Carter-Finley might have a new logo on midfield for the UNC game.

you can see this tweet from Triangle Radio producer Hayes Permar

Dark out at C-F but friend managed to snap a pic of the Piedmont. Trust me, the rest is there… http://t.co/3rPEbeVK3I

— Hayes Permar (@DHPIV) November 1, 2013

which was later confirmed by Wolfpack Offensive Linemen, Tyson Chandler

@NCSUFan101 it was white tho they might have painted the red in after practice

For what its worth, there are also rumors of new uniforms for Saturday but that is yet to be confirmed so who actually knows. They could wear pink skirts for all I care, as long as they win and/or it helps recruiting.

Our friends over at BackingThePack.com have a good analysis of the whole situation:

I actually like it fine, but the thing is it’s, you know, a blatant rip-off. I’m all for mixing things up a bit, whether it’s with the uniforms or something like this, but it would be nice if State could figure out something that hasn’t already been done by a school down the road. They at least had the decency to rip “this is our state” from a program several states removed.

The tweet of the night goes to theDevilWolf

If NC State REALLY wanted to troll UNC, they'd put the actual ECU logo at midfield

— Ben Swain (@TheBenSwain) November 1, 2013

One thing I wouldn’t mind them stealing would be the #hashtag in the end-zone that Mississippi State had for their Thursday night game a year back. Drop an #OurState or #PackNation in there one of these games.

Oh yea, one more thing that we can all agree on…. GO TO HELL CAROLINA! Go Pack!

If we’re ripping off ECU’s midfield logo that’s pretty weak sauce. Is there any creativity whatsoever in our athletics/marketing department? I already know the answer to that.

  2. WufShark 11/01/2013 at 12:00 AM #

Like it, but really don’t give a damn what’s on the grass as long as the ‘Holes have their asses kicked on it.

  3. wufpup76 11/01/2013 at 12:21 AM #

I like it … wish it wasn’t a copy, but whatevs

  4. WuPack13 11/01/2013 at 12:34 AM #

If LSU can put a tiger with purple eye shadow on their field and FSU can put a bacon faced seminole out there, I think we could find someone to paint the strutting wolf…just sayin

  5. Wufpacker 11/01/2013 at 4:17 AM #

To be fair, ECU ripped it off from Carolina to begin with. They just happened to put their little pirate head in there and really muck it up.

I don’t dislike it per se, but I see no need to move away from the Block S, even temporarily. If they wanted to do something different, make the Block S bigger, and put a state map (white with a red star marking Raleigh) across the middle bar of the S.

  6. TeufelWolf 11/01/2013 at 5:47 AM #

I like it actually. The fact that the likeness of state of NC has been used before makes no difference to me in this case.
    GO PACK!!!

  7. Wulfpack 11/01/2013 at 7:34 AM #

I do not dislike it but also think it is not wow factor enough to rip it off another school. That is a bit weak.

  8. tjfoose1 11/01/2013 at 8:00 AM #

Well, at least we are what we are. NC State once again displaying the PR genius and marketing creativity of a Tech and Ag school.

  9. tjfoose1 11/01/2013 at 8:04 AM #

    Haha…

Gotta love this headline from the N&O:

“Heels QB Renner benefits from experiencing former roommate T.J. Yates”

Color me unimpressed. It is another in a list of things we have done recently that seem to be an attempt to create “tradition” by doing something someone else does. Like the seven nation army intro, that multiple teams including Duke do. We are a school full of engineers, designers, and forward thinkers, why can’t we come up with original things to do?

  11. TLeo 11/01/2013 at 8:24 AM #

I don’t hate it but I don’t like it much either but I’m not going to get all worked up over it. I think maybe just the Tuffy wolf head mascot would have been better than such a blatant copy of ECU’s field. In the end all that really matters is beating the hell out of those blue SOBs.

  12. cameronoverrated 11/01/2013 at 8:33 AM #

The only way that is cool is if we broke it out the ECU game as a “slap in their face”. There really isn’t much imagination up there.

  13. vtpackfan 11/01/2013 at 8:36 AM #

Maybe we will use it again vs ECU. Two Logo Bowls is better than only one NCAA.

  14. JohnGalt78 11/01/2013 at 8:39 AM #

We lost to Wake Forest. The whole “This is Our State” thing is lame w/o a history of winning against our neighbors. We don’t have that, especially in BB. I don’t really care for anything but a block S as the centerfield logo. Hell, leave it blank until we start winning, then we can talk some smack. For now, stay humble and hungry and do your talking on the field.

  15. StateMan 11/01/2013 at 8:39 AM #

I didn’t realize that ECU had a trademark on the shape of NC. I think it should be bigger.

  16. Wulfpack 11/01/2013 at 8:50 AM #

Remember the Smith Center has a similar logo at center court. Another reason I don’t see much ingenuity or intelligence to it.

  17. Alpha Wolf 11/01/2013 at 8:53 AM #

    I hate “The Carter” monicker.

Pay me no mind, though, because, damn, I am old. last night, I let the sprinkler soak the front yard during Halloween prime time (as scheduled) to keep kids off of my lawn. There’s a couple of hundred dollars of grass seedlings on it that are too tender for tromping, so screw ’em. Tromp on the driveway and walk if you want free candy, I figured.

  18. TheCOWDOG 11/01/2013 at 9:00 AM #

Thanks for a positive pre game post Jack.

Damn….Nothing like opening up the floodgates of ridicule.

Mdse Le Croix is back on the table now, Beej.

  19. Daniel_Simpson_Day 11/01/2013 at 9:01 AM #

Just a question for those that are ok with this: if UNC had blatantly copied something semi-original we had developed, would you still be ok with it. If yes then carry on.
And the rationalization “they copied it from UNC” only makes it worse. That means we are copying ECU and UNC.

  20. LifeLongWolf 11/01/2013 at 9:17 AM #

Alpha, you are my new role model.

  21. BJD95 11/01/2013 at 9:21 AM #

Do NOT like. A giant red asterisk at midfield? Would like very much.

  22. DC_wolf 11/01/2013 at 9:28 AM #

“Is there any creativity whatsoever in our athletics/marketing department?” From the same guys that thought it was creative to take perfectly good “STATE” jerseys from last year & RE-install the “NC”?

  23. packalum44 11/01/2013 at 9:33 AM #

Originality is an insignificant factor – effectiveness is is all that matters in marketing.

By most accounts, and if the peeve of UNC alumni is any indication, the “Our State” marketing works.

  24. NOT A FAN OF BLUE 11/01/2013 at 9:42 AM #

WE. JUST. CAN’T. SEEM. TO. GET. IT. RIGHT.

… the horror … the horror

  25. WV Wolf 11/01/2013 at 9:57 AM #

Can’t say I’m a fan of it. I will freely admit that I think ECU’s midfield logo looks great. Theirs has a cool looking skull, ours has a cartoon wolf. There’s nothing original about ours.

If they had used the wolf eyes inside the state outline that is on the schedule poster I might give this a passing grade. Maybe that’s too hard to paint on grass. Although LSU has a fade in tiger eye so it’s probably doable, but this is the school that apparently had trouble with the concept of red paint a few years ago.
