2013 Football Uniforms

Pictures of the 2013 football uniforms: here and here.

What’s new:
*The “NC” is back in front of “STATE.” Seems curious, considering that having only “STATE” seemed so wildly popular among the fans.

SFN asked Debbie Yow about the change via email. Her response:

We will always use “State” in some form or fashion…. [It’s] a lot of fun and nostalgic.

That said, we are a program on the rise and want the entire nation (
and internationally) to know who they are watching win big with no room for error.

So, both marks are alive and well.

*Finally added some black trim on the red helmets, which makes the logo seem much sharper.

*The pants now have piping (red on white, white on red, both with black trim).

*”1 Pack 1 Goal” printed on the inside-back collar.

*The Adidas logo looks to be the same font size as the “NC STATE” lettering. It’s an arms race for merchandising, too.

Helmets look great. The pant stripe, while thankfully added, is completely botched. The black should be wider.

Prefer it without the “NC” preceding “STATE”, but understand it per marketing (for football). The block “S” is already confused with Stanford, and “State” is pretty generic and is not identifiable outside the region.

Just off the top of my head, a red “State” could be Ball State, Cal State, Wazzu, New Mexico State, Arkansas St, Iowa State, Illinois State, heck, even South Carolina State. Admittedly though, some of those are different shades of red.

Basketball, IMHO, is a different story. We have an established, though maybe dated (but re-emerging), national brand.

Love ’em. No need for drastic change, and I’m glad we are keeping the red hats.

Those pant stripes are gonna look great on TV and from the stands. Close up views without pads make them look like weird bicycle pants, same as any other schools…….. 28 to go.

Not bad. Nice and clean with small changes. I hope they never go away from the RED helmets. I love the RED lids! I actually prefer them without the NC on the front but after a game in them I will love it just the same. We should just put WOLF on the front of the jersey….that would be different.

Just can’t wait for football even if the uniforms were pink.

I like the change to “NC State” and I’m glad we’re still going to have the red helmets. Wish we could get rid of the Adidas logo.

I’m ok with these…just torch anything black though!

Awesome new unis!  Love the stripes on the helmets and pants.

These look really good, as much as I love the STATE logo using the block S, they definitely needed to add the NC for nationwide awareness. I’d like to see us adopt the idea that Nike has used for some of their schools like Michigan State. Across all sports at MSU, they have a somewhat similar style including the same font for numbers and lettering. I think the consistency looks awesome and there is no doubt about what school it is.

I know it’s all about branding, but I just don’t get the argument about how the casual fan is gonna wonder if that’s Arkansas State or Ball State playing on the ACC Network.

And it’s not like they’re selling State apparel in the Midwest. You can’t even buy it at the awesome truck stop off I-40/Hwy 210 Exit 408 that sells cherry Sun Drop in the fountain and inexplicably stopped selling Holly taters behind the lunch counter.

    since LRM brought up branding:
ours is 160, according to Forbes.

we’re ahead of University of Puget Sound,
and behind UC-Santa Cruz. here’s the link:

at least we don’t lie about it, like these:
    Bucknell, Emory, and Iona.
