More #RedLight Specials for #Pack14 ?

redlight

If you missed our other post about the flurry of football recruiting activity today you need to go check it out. Coach D has picked up 3 huge defensive line recruits today and it might not be over, commitments #20-24 could be very very close.

4-star OL Terronne Prescodd will be back on campus with his mom for the second straight weekend and the coaches are highly anticipating his commitment. So much so, that he might not even wait until the weekend.

3-star OL Brock Ruble is another guy the coaches are hot on the tail of and he happens to be from the same high school as DE Deonte Holden who committed today. Rumors of his commitment status are range from “very close” to “no where near one” but I believe the coaches are anticipating it sooner rather than later.

3-star DT Deshaywn Middleton has NC State as a heavy favorite and has pushed back his announcement date a few times but this July 1st it looks like it might stick. EVERYONE is fully expecting an NC State commitment and there is strong speculation he might already be in but wants the fanfare that comes with a planned announcement. Whatever it is, I’ll be shocked if he isn’t committed to #Pack14 by Monday.

5-star DE Kentavious Street has made it no secret that he loves NC State and that has kept everyone around and in the program on their toes for a commitment that could happen at any moment. Street originally thought he wanted to announce at the Army All-American game which would be great publicity for us but at the same time if he popped sooner rather then later having a 5-star on board would do tremendous amounts to getting the attention of some of the other big names who have us in the mix but not at the top. Street could very likely be in within the next 2 weeks but almost definitely in by August according to people in the know.

In other State recruiting news, someone created the twitter handle @WolfpackPatrol to help spread the love of State fans to these types of kids which is an area that NC State has severely lagged behind other schools, in particular the SEC. Kentucky fans are notorious for this and the recruits love it, coincidentally they currently have the top recruiting classes in both major sports. If you are into twitter and not above tweeting at youngins then give them a follow and help out.

I’ve gotten involved in the WolfPackPatrol since it first started. It really is making an impact, you can tell by the way these recruits respond. It’s important to get as many people involved as possible.

Just curious how @wolfpackpatrol or any twitter feed like this would not be considered an NCAA violation. Is it not against the NCAA’s 100000 page handbook for students or alum to recruit kids to their school in any manner including electronic media?

  3. wolffpride 06/25/2013 at 12:03 PM #

Social media rules all…this was a great post. Hit these kids up, show them why we are the best fanbase in the ACC

Thanks for this info. I think it’s fun to keep up with the recruiting info, but I don’t make the effort to look around at the recruiting sites, so thanks. This is all great to hear.

Just picked up an in-state RB – Marcelias Sutton. He is a sleeper, his tape and numbers from last year are impressive. Speedster!

Man we are running out of room fast. anyone know exactly how many we can sign for 2014?

  6. tjfoose1 06/25/2013 at 1:17 PM #

^ Using NC State math, or u*nc/butch davis math?

  7. tjfoose1 06/25/2013 at 1:20 PM #

    http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncfrecruiting/southeast/tag/_/name/marcelias-sutton

    RB: Marcelias Sutton, 5-7 ½, 171, Kenan (N.C.) Warsaw
    Results: 4.76 40, 4.31 shuttle, 33.0’ PB, 40.8” VJ, 94.56 SPARQ
Breakdown: As a junior, he rushed for 1,804 yards and 19 touchdowns and has been offered by UNC-Charlotte.

From these numbers, I’m guessing he’s being looked at for a slot type in DD’s spread offense.

I wouldn’t personally participate in such twitter machinations. Doesn’t feel right to me, at all.

But I understand the times are what they are, and wouldn’t discourage others from participating. Hey, if NC State is successful, certainly it will lead to the NCAA cutting it off LMAO.

  9. wolffpride 06/25/2013 at 2:27 PM #

    Tjfoose,

Did not think his 40 would be that high. He is fast on tape, a dude that little has to be fast. Probably just a bad combine. 1800 rushing and 300 receiving with 24 total scores is a damn good year. In the slot he could be another Bryan Underwood…

  10. ncsu1987 06/25/2013 at 3:01 PM #

^Heard from a colleague here at work that his combine 40 was measured during rainstorm, that he’s closer to a 4.5-4.6 guy. Don’t know his source, so take with a grain of salt.

If you are ever on Twitter, what you will see is that EVERYONE else is doing the same thing, either you get with it or you will be left behind. If we want to compete recruiting against UGA, UT, USC, CLEM, VT, AUB, etc. then we have to match what those guys can offer. Part of that equation is the Fans. These kids perceive much through Twitter & other social media.

Kid has a great sparq score…. very impressed at recruiting this far.

Why do you have to be so positive about this whole recruiting thing? This is how State S$%)t starts!

  14. Wufpacker 06/26/2013 at 1:45 AM #

“This is how State S$%)t starts!”

    Or maybe how it ends.

And I’m with BJD regarding if it proves successful for us it will be legislated against…retroactively of course, after we get probation for it.

In all seriousness about that though, it’s an issue of “letter of the law” vs “changing times/what is practical/what is being enforced”.

Always a gray area, that. So hopefully those participating with this sort of thing are doing so responsibly.

I hope @wolfpackpatrol works out and helps pull in a few recruits. To me though, it seems the line is crossed when a special account has been created for the sole purpose of recruiting players. That’s different than multiple students or fans using their own account to send tweets. Plus, Dave Doeren is following so the coach cannot plead ignorance.

Remember a few years ago when State got their wrist slapped by the NCAA for fans reaching out on Facebook, I think it was, and creating an account to recruit kids. Somehow this will come back to bite us.
    Signed,

virtually EVERY kid that commits, immediately TWEETS his decision… this is NO different than a FAN/Student/Alum of NCSU doing the EXACT same thing. Sorry, but TWEETING about SIGNING with the Pack is NOT an NCAA violation.

some of you guys/girls live life with a glass half EMPTY, and that must truly SUCK. Try and keep those NEGATIVE chins up!

  17. wolffpride 06/26/2013 at 9:25 AM #

Speaking of NCAA violations, has anyone payed attention to the new developments in the PJ Hairston saga? I read that the NCAA was on campus investigating the relationship between Hairston and an NBA agent named Rodney Blackstock (Charlotte based i believe). Apparently this guy has a shady record and is on the NCAA blacklist.

Did he rent the SUV? Time will tell gentlemen, time will tell. Of course nothing will come of this and there is nothing to see here, now move along (officer Barbrady voice).

  18. nav 06/26/2013 at 9:26 AM #

Maybe I misunderstood the purpose of the account but I looked at the account and I see kids tweeting to prospective recruits asking them to come on board the Pack14 train. This is recruiting. This is not announcing kids that have already committed.

If the purpose of the account is to just announce kids that have already committed then of course that is not a violation. Duh.

  19. NCSUROX 06/26/2013 at 9:30 AM #

^^^and there’s a difference between that, and kids walking right up to the kid, and saying, “you NEED to run with the Pack”????

    I kinda think, NOT. Duh.

  20. Wufpacker 06/26/2013 at 10:22 AM #

    That’s exactly the point NCSUROX.

    Duh, indeed.

  21. tjfoose1 06/26/2013 at 12:46 PM #

“^^^and there’s a difference between that, and kids walking right up to the kid, and saying, “you NEED to run with the Pack”????”

Right. Just like there’s not a difference between 1) Marvin Austin walking right up to a kid and telling him about his visit to a Miami nightclub and 2) Marvin Austin tweeting about it.

    Yep, no difference at all.

    Duh.

Just so some of you understand why some us “glass half empty lifers” have a concern that this could at some point cause a problem, some of you, ESPECIALLY THOSE PARTICIPATING IN THIS #WolfpackPatrol THING, need to go here and familiarize yourselves. PLEASE…

    http://www.gopack.com/sports/compliance/archive/dos-donts.html

    Just to get you started….

“Since coaches must be certified to recruit and are the only permissible off-campus recruiters, a representative of the institution’s athletic interest:

MAY NOT make in-person, on-campus or off-campus recruiting contacts with prospective student-athletes, their relatives or legal guardians. This prohibition includes written, text, email, IM, social media and telephone communications.

MAY NOT contact prospective student-athlete’s coaches, principals or counselors in an attempt to evaluate the prospective student-athletes.”

FWIW, a “representative of athletic interest” is a rather vague term. IF you are now or have ever been a member of the WPC or the SWPC, you are one and always will be, but that IS NOT the only thing that makes you one. IF you are unsure if you are considered a representative of athletic interest, better to presume you are.

IN FACT…just participating in this #WolfpackPatrol thing probably makes you a representive of athletic interest as defined by the NCAA.
