Big Couple of Days for State Athletics

Copeland Cleared to Play in 2013

So just as I was finishing berating that NCAA on twitter for the punishment (or lack there-of) to the University of Oregon, the NCAA drops some good news to the way of NC State fans as West Virginia transfer Travares Copeland tweeted the following Travares Copeland Tweet.

The speedster from Florida had decided to transfer from WVa because of an ill family member, who has recently passed, and instantly connected with Coach D and the rest of the staff. So much so he canceled the rest of his visits and committed to NC State. He’s already enrolled at State and has excited the coaches with what he’s been able to do in his short time here. I assume you’ll see him lined up in the slot for Matt Canada’s spread offense but the converted high school quarterback has a skill set that could see him all over the field.

This is a big win for State in an area where we have notoriously lost battles with the NCAA and immediately it made me think of this clip.

Here is a clip of Copeland’s Highlight reel from high school.

State in the NBA Draft

It’s been a long time since State fans have had a rooting interest in the NBA Draft, five years to be exact, but that will all change tonight with 4 potential players up to be drafted. Lorenzo Brown, CJ Leslie, Richard Howell and Scott Wood all hope to be taken in tonight’s draft. According to NBADraft.net‘s mock draft Brown and Leslie are projecting to go #37 and #38 respectively. As for Howell & Wood both provide a unique skill set but according to scouts don’t have the complete package, so let’s hope a couple teams give 2 of State’s all-time favorites a shot. Earlier in the season I was able to talk to a scout for the Heat and while he was there watching Brown he mentioned he wasn’t a huge fan of Leslie’s body language and that Howell was the heart and soul of this team. He also went on to say that if Howell had Leslie’s body, he’d be a top 10 pick for sure. Probably not something we all don’t know but he was able to pick up on that very quickly which I thought was interesting.

Here’s a few draft videos that we’ve found and even though they all feature JR Reid, a Hole, I’ll post them because he does a good job breaking down our guys:

How do you all feel about our guys’ chance tonight in the draft? Who do you compare their games most closely to?

We’ve learned this weekend is setting up to be another big weekend for State football recruiting. We’ve talked about it in some recent posts but stay tuned this weekend for more!

Getting late. Only 10 picks left and all Pack players still on the board.

Brown and Leslie currently the top two left on the board according to Bilas.

Howell 7th on the top left list.

    Brown to Minnesota…#52 overall.

  3. Wulfpack 06/27/2013 at 11:55 PM #

Brown goes 52nd to Minnesota. Not a good place for him with Rubio and now Burke there.

Not looking good for Leslie. Boy has his stock plummeted in a year’s time.

  5. Wufpacker 06/27/2013 at 11:57 PM #

Heh, you think that’s bad. CJ gonna end up a Wizard. That’s a bad spot no matter who you are. 😀

  6. Wufpacker 06/27/2013 at 11:59 PM #

Nope…CJ dodges a “bullet”. Heh, get it?

  7. Wufpacker 06/28/2013 at 12:01 AM #

Frankly, if I’m a GM….I take Howell before CJ.

  8. Wulfpack 06/28/2013 at 12:04 AM #

How embarrassing this must be for CJ.

  9. RINGwolf 06/28/2013 at 12:06 AM #

If CJ dodged a bullet, he did better than Hodge

  10. Wulfpack 06/28/2013 at 12:06 AM #

He was a preseason All America and now at risk of being undrafted.

  11. Wulfpack 06/28/2013 at 12:08 AM #

You know Pop won’t touch him. Howell he loves. Hard worker.

  12. Wufpacker 06/28/2013 at 12:10 AM #

Minnesota, Memphis or bust. CJ about to be shut out.

  13. Wufpacker 06/28/2013 at 12:13 AM #

    LOL…Bilas defending CJ.

  14. RINGwolf 06/28/2013 at 12:13 AM #

Bummer for our guys. Now maybe they can pick the right situation and make a hard push to make a squad?

  15. Wulfpack 06/28/2013 at 12:13 AM #

    This is amazing.

  16. Wufpacker 06/28/2013 at 12:14 AM #

One to go…..Will the Grizzlies bite?

  17. Wufpacker 06/28/2013 at 12:15 AM #

    Nope.

  18. Wulfpack 06/28/2013 at 12:15 AM #

Rose called this bunch the most underachieving team. This tells you exactly what the league thinks of Leslie – not much.

  19. Wufpacker 06/28/2013 at 12:17 AM #

Well, when you get beat out by a guy from Latvia named “Janis”….LOL.

I’m kidding, I don’t know Janis from Adam.

But still. Has to be Leslie’s psyche that shut him out. No other explanation.

  20. Wulfpack 06/28/2013 at 12:20 AM #

Shut out. My my my. Undrafted.

  21. Wulfpack 06/28/2013 at 12:21 AM #

Good nite. Bad night for the Pack. Could have had three. Howell will make a team.

  22. jbwbubba 06/28/2013 at 12:37 AM #

Bad night for Pack. This hurts recruiting badly.

I think we all know CJ is a talented BB player but we all know why he did not get drafted also. You cannot tell me that the last 10 to 15 players drafted talent wise should have be picked before CJ. NO WAY!!! So he has no one to blame but himself. I still feel sorry for him though.

I do not understand what a preseason ranking and not living up to it has to do with talent when it comes to the NBA. There are many factors that play into this team not performing as expected this year. If the reason CJ was not drafted was only because what the team did not accomplish then why did Lo get drafted? CJ had luggage that the NBA did not want to pursue and that is unfortunate for him.

ANYBODY ELSE SEE THE BLOCK AT 1:22 on the Copeland video? If Not… .go back and watch!

  25. Wulfpack 06/28/2013 at 6:42 AM #

Who knows if it is about his attitude. But I do think it is clear it shows NBA execs aren’t sure where to play him. He is not a big. Of course he has way more talent than just about all of the second rounders. He is going to have to work his tail off to prove the doubters wrong.
