Former Arkansas QB Brandon Mitchell Will Transfer To NC State

ESPN’s Joe Schad is reporting that former Arkansas QB Brandon Mitchell will be transferring to NC State.

“I like the culture, coaches, expectations within the program starting all the way at the top, and most importantly chemistry,” Mitchell said. “I felt I built it with players in just three days. Bottom line is I want to win, and I want to win now. They have the best opportunity there for success and just had one missing piece.”

Mitchell has one season of eligibility and will compete immediately for a starting position.

A senior, Mitchell is on track to graduate and be eligible to play this season. He competed with sophomore Brandon Allen throughout the spring at Arkansas but was listed as second team.

Mitchell (6-foot-4, 239 pounds) has appeared in 21 college games with three starts. He has caught 17 passes for 272 yards, is 25-of-43 passing for 332 yards and two touchdowns and has rushed 23 times for 75 yards and two touchdowns.

Mitchell also played in 13 games over 2 seasons for the Razorback basketball team averaging 2.9 points per game.

Agreeing a bit with Fergus here. When I first read the below, it gave me pause.

” They have the best opportunity there for success and just had one missing piece.”

I’d say that was accurate for UW when RW left, but not NC State going into the 2013 season. I certainly hope Mitchell’s decision making in the pocket is better than his personnel analysis. But I guess it’s all relative. Missing one piece for what?

As far a bulletin board material for the other QB’s, I say GOOD! Heated competition is what you want this time of year. Competition with/against a teammate can often (if not usually) burn and push a player in the off/pre season beyond the limits of simply preparing for other teams. Especially one with a mouth. It’s personal before it’s team vs team.

Keep it chippy. But not too much.

I’m not saying that this kid is the second coming — but, we’ve seen how a single player at the QB position can make the difference in multiple wins on the football field. I think this is another obvious indication that the staff really wants to use the pistol offense and that talk about ‘fitting the system to match our talent’ was out of necessity rather than preference.

I like that he’s big. The cupboard of OL was not ideal for what DD/Canada like to run (plus we’re thin and mostly inexperienced).

QBs will be taking hits. Can you make the throw? Can you stand in there and take a hit? Well there you go.

Another thing to remember is that Manny Stocker may be able to RS next season now, which would create more QB depth for the future

SpeakiNG of Stocker…is anyone else a little miffed that TOB burned his RS for a handful of plays. He could have seen significantly more time in the powder puff games as a minimum.

Coach Doren has stated that Manny has the tools but is nowhere near ready to start at QB and stated the Thomas was on scout team and received no coaching for a year. This staff is very impressive in all phases of running a program.
