Chattanooga’s Wes Moore Named New Women’s Basketball Coach

NC State’s new women’s basketball coach will be UTC’s Wes Moore. You can read the gopack.com story here, the AP story (from Pack Pride) here and the release from NC State (also from Pack Pride) here.

A couple of highlights from the gopack story:

Moore spent the past 15 seasons as the head coach at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) where he led the Lady Mocs to 12 Southern Conference (SoCon) regular season titles, nine SoCon tournament championships, and nine NCAA Tournament berths, while becoming the winningest coach in UTC and SoCon history. He is the reigning SoCon Coach of the Year, an award he has earned on six separate occasions.

“I am humbled and proud to be back at NC State, and to be a part of returning this storied program to prominence,” said Moore. “The great tradition and history of Wolfpack Women’s Basketball make it one of the best places in the country to coach and play. Debbie Yow has a reputation for building successful athletic departments that win, while also preparing student-athletes to have productive lives long after their college careers are over. I’m very thankful for this great opportunity and can’t wait to get started. Go Pack!“

From 1993-95, Moore served as women’s basketball assistant coach at NC State under legendary head coach Kay Yow. During that time, the Wolfpack went 34-24 and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. His other head coaching stops include Maryville College (Division III) and Francis Marion (Division II).

Don’t know a thing about him, but that is a really impressive record at UTC. Surprised he hasn’t been hired by a major conference program before now.

Living in Chatt TN currently – locals are sad to see him go. Happy for him, but sad for the program. The Lady Mocs stunned the Lady Vols in their season opener this past year and took everyone by surprise. Great find by the Pack imo.

No muss, no fuss. Love to Dr. Debbie has names in her pocket for when the big openings happen.

    Just read Mandy’s Twititer comments….

I am guessing, but here is my take…

    Wes has a winning record…

    Wes can recurit…

Wes will HOPEFULLY restore some dignity to the Women’s program so that there is support for the $40 Million Reynold Refurb.

That project will improve recuiting and get the program back on track.

If you LOOK at the dates on the banners, St. Montieth and his BB Executioner squad did NOT discriminate on a gender basis. If I had a Diploma with his signature on it, it would NOT be framed as my Dr. Caldwell one is

Glad Debbie found someone that UNDERSTANDS the program and has a good track record.

My only knowledge of the place is from a song named ‘Chattanooga Choo Choo’, purportedly about a train.

Welcome Coach Moore. I know it’s got to be hard to leave a beautiful city like Chatanooga, an old iron town, with railroads going this way and that. I remember part of my stay in Chatanooga when App won its first National Championship. Got dropped at the aquarium and stopped at every bar on the way to the football field and had a shot of Maker’s Mark. Oh the memories.

So glad Mrs. Yow doesn’t play around when it’s time to hire and fire! Wonder how long it would have took that last guy to find a replacement? Welcome back Wes!!!

With a record like that, perhaps he should be coaching our men’s team!
