Scott Wood Does His Post-Game Interviews on the Whiteboard

IMG_20130314_164817

Scott Wood is loved by NC State fans not only because he’s one of the best shooters this league has ever seen but also for his candid nature when talking to the press.  He just always seems to tell it like it is which is a rare breath of fresh air in today’s society of coach-speak and pre-formulated SID answers. Well yesterday after the ACC Tourny Wood was apparently tired of answer the same questions so he went to the whiteboard to answer them all at once and this is what he came up with.

Not wanting Wood to be left out, Warren walked over and offered his 2-cents: “Scott can shoot a little”

I predict… Scott Wood will be a great D1 basketball coach in about 15 years.

Remember you heard this here first on SFN.

Hopefully he dropped the marker and walked out.

I’ve been saying that for about a year now too. I think he is a smart player (basketball IQ) and understands that the fundamentals matter. I know he isn’t the best defender and doesn’t take people off the dribble, but he works hard the whole time he is in the game. He can’t always make up for the athletic advantage that CJ and others have, but I don’t think many on our team out-work him. Wouldn’t mind having him on State’s bench as an assistant coach in a couple of years.

I absolutely love this kid. Maybe we are looking at our next coach after 25 years of Gottfried success? (I know…I know….crazy Wolfpack optimistic thinking)

Scott is the man. Funny addition by TJ. Gottfried should do like K and have a designated interviewee and it should be Scott Wood.

He is probably going to break out the white board again today. UVa is going to be on him so tight and we will have so little transition game that I would surprised if he attempts more then 4 to 5 threes. Maybe Gott we press him to do more UCLA cuts to he can get some dunks or FT attempts.

Couldn’t agree more about his candid nature. He would make a fine Politician some day and just air the the obvious nature of that bafoonery.

Notice the upward sloping trend to Scott’s writing. As an armchair handwriting analyst, i say Scott is an optimist, or is at least feeling optimistic right now.

I agree with Mav. Woo gets ripped on this board a lot for his limitations, but I see his limitations as something that cannot be fixed. He’s slow. Hard work can make marginal improvements on the edges, but if you’re a slow white boy you always will be a slow white boy. Trust me – I tried.

I’ve watched him a good bit on D, and he always works hard and aims to make up for it when he gets beat. He probably leads the team in times getting blown by and following Mr. Speedster to block the shot from behind.

He pays attention and sometimes clogs passing lanes, occasionally jumping out for a steal when his speed will let him.

When he’s switched to a big man, he’ll do his best to body up, even drawing charges occasionally when a big beast tries to bully him in the post.

I really think he makes the most of what he has.

Yeah, I think Scott is going to be a success in whatever he chooses to do once his college career is done. There’s a fine art to being candid without throwing other people under the bus. I’ll miss the kid.

As much as I wish this were true, I think it could never happen today (a candid-speaking politician). One wrong word can end your career in today’s non-thinking, read-and-overreact culture. If someone from the opposite party wants to end Scott Wood, the politician’s career, just get a reporter to ask him how it feels to lose to Carolina.

Maybe after yesterday’s defensive effort we should modify the “Scott can’t play defense” meme.
