Media selects Howell, Zo, CJL, TJW All ACC

Richard Howell was deservedly named 1st Team All ACC; Lorenzo Brown, 2nd; C.J. Leslie, 3rd.

Howell was a beast this season, averaging 12.7 points and 10.6 rebounds per game; he led the ACC in boards. Brown led the ACC with 7.0 assists per game and also contributed 12.5 points per game; he likely would’ve been on the 1st team if he hadn’t missed three-and-a-half games with the ankle injury. Leslie averaged 14.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

I said it on the forums last week. I have never wanted an NC State player to make first team All-ACC as much as Richard Howell. A tribute to his hard work, relentlessness, and attitude.

Lo on the second team is about right. CJ made it on rep and hype.

  2. Rick 03/11/2013 at 3:19 PM #

I believe I called Howell on the first team last week.

Inadvertent brilliance at its finest 😉

  3. Wulfpack 03/11/2013 at 3:22 PM #

Congrats to Howell and Brown, as well as to Warren.

    Not talented my behind…

Way to go Richard, Lorenzo, CJ, and Tyler!!!

Lets add an ACC Championship to your honors!!

Happy for Howell! It is good for the program to have first teamer. Let’s hope they have several games left to play this season for the Pack.

  6. TLeo 03/11/2013 at 4:18 PM #

Really glad to see that for Howell. he really put in the work and effort this year and totally deserves it. Congratulations!

  7. PackisRolling 03/11/2013 at 4:39 PM #

I hope CJL takes note of Howell’s approach if he returns next year. Put in the effort in the weightroom, get your head straight, grow up and get results.

Really good to see Howell get that first-team nod today. Congratulations to all the guys: Richard, Lo, Calvin and TJ. Now, let’s make some hay in the tourneys coming up.

Congrats to Howell. There are few players who have worn the N.C. State uniform that I’ve enjoyed watching as much. Just brings it every minute of every game.

Shockingly, the media pretty much nailed it with these selections. The only argument I have is with McAdoo on the 2nd team. As disappointed as we’ve been with CJ, McAdoo has been significantly worse. He’s just not a good offensive player. He gets the ball a ton, but he’s a turnover machine and he takes tons of bad shots.

Congratulations Richard, Lorenzo, CJ, and TJ! Good job! Despite lapses on defense, defections, last second shots and one significant injury, we had a decent year and still have time to make it a special year.

    Play hard… Go pack

Congratulations Rick! Way to pick Howell 1st Team All-ACC last week!

  12. graywolf 03/11/2013 at 7:41 PM #

Big Rich is very deserving of this honor. He has worked so hard the last 4 years and made himself what he is today.
    Congratulation!

Very happy for the BEAST very deservedly being named to 1st Team All-ACC … Loved Howell since he got here. Absolute rebounding machine.

I’m going to disagree with quite a few on here and say that CJ did deserve those 3rd team honors. His play was frustrating at times, but he certainly did enough to warrant a selection.

McAdoo on the 2nd team?? Really? Because … ???

  14. Alpha Wolf 03/11/2013 at 8:15 PM #

Third team sounds about right for CJL. A lot of physical talent, brilliant play at times, but overall, spotty.

    “Not talented my behind…”

Yeah, like UNC-Cheat’s team last year, we have four first round picks, most of whom will get selected in the NBA draft lottery. (/sarcasm)

We have a coaching staff that’s developing players, like no other staff has in a long time. We have a couple of players – in Brown and Leslie – who have a huge upside that hasn’t been close to fully tapped at this level. We aren’t one of “those” teams that would be considered loaded a few miles to the west of Raleigh.

Congrats to Howell, Brown, CJL and TJW for making all ACC honors.

Congrats to all four for making All ACC honors.

“McAdoo on the 2nd team?? Really? Because … ???”

It’s the three names, inversely proportional. Had he been just James McAdoo, he’d be a stretch for 3rd team. Or had he been James Michael MacGyver McAdoo, he’d be a 1st team lock.

  17. triadwolf 03/11/2013 at 11:20 PM #

Hell, Leslie has multiple personalities, that should hold more water than just three names.

  18. ADVENTUROO 03/11/2013 at 11:36 PM #

    Can’t argue….

I hope that ZO will be motivated, and I’m sure he will to do us proud. Richard will work his butt off.

Maybe this will be a “Tommy Burleson” moment for CJ and the real Calvin (the one on the GOOD side of Force) will come out….

  19. wolfpup44 03/12/2013 at 12:19 AM #

I hope that LB and CJL are smart enough to know the scouts will be paying attention as to how they finish. Now all the games count and that is how we got on the radar last year. On paper we can win the ACC, but I think the writers took note that CJ did not dominate as they predicted and that is what worries me for the tournament. At least we can count on RH. What a hard worker!

“Hell, Leslie has multiple personalities, that should hold more water than just three names.”

That’s an excellent point. You could say that Calvin should be a 2nd, maybe even 1st team selection, while CJ doesn’t even get Honorable Mention.

  21. packpowerfan 03/12/2013 at 3:46 AM #

State and Duke with 3 apiece, plus one on the frosh team. No complaints from Lo being on the 2nd, though I think he’d have been a 1st teamer had he been healthy all season. Rich absolutely deserves this, and I look forward to seeing him back it up in both tourneys.

  22. Ransompack 03/12/2013 at 6:37 AM #

Congrats to all Richard, Zo and TJ.

CJ was the preseason pick for Player of the Year in the ACC – what a disappointment. Now I’m afraid he’ll have to come back – that’s a sad statement.

I just want to see an “I do care” look on him one time this season.

Let’s hope we have a great ACC and NCAA tournament.

  23. wolfonthehill 03/12/2013 at 7:19 AM #

The only reason Lo’s extra 3 games could put him on 1st team is that we could be 13-5 with them… and at 13-5, he gets more votes.

Not fair, but the way it is…

It’s fantastic that State is so well represented. We’re spring boarding into the ACCT with an 11 season win. In the hunt for a 3rd place seating in the final weekend of regular season play. It’s been a while and a great spot to be in.

Nice to see Howell, Buckets and Zo get some well-deserved recognition.

I do have to ask- who’s the best player on our team. We all know the unspeakable. Although he didn’t have a super great season, he was a key in all of our wins. I still think that ya’ll are too rough on him although I do the maturity factor.

Coach Gott had to play him. Nobody else could pick up the slack.

Again, an 11 season win and splitting with the blues is great. I would say that’s pretty immediate results from the coaching staff. It’s been a really, really good year.

Props to BJD (and Rick) for his picks – he must have had some insider knowledge (and a lucky guess)!
