State lost.

Out-coached and outplayed, State deserved to lose today in Chapel Hill. Carolina ended the game on a 24-8 run after Gottfried refused to substitute for tired legs down the stretch and State’s execution turned erratic.

If you care, here’s the box score (ESPN) and the SFN Forums.

So I guess we all agree that we should start looking for our next head coach?

Thanks for posting the box score… (can’t help it:)

    C.J. Leslie 30 3-8 0-0 0-4 4 2 2 0 6 3 6

    That’s a lot of single-digits after the ’30’…

    O-for-infinity in black uniforms…

    (just sayin’)

Staff is no game day thinkers, that for sure. This lineup is good: Rich, Zo & Wood and Lewis; rest pick your poison. Calvin rides the pine, Purvis and TJ are a year away at consistency. TJ has the most upside. Junk defense or surprise strategy of some type would be good. No bench depth and poor defensive coaching. Hope at least they can recruit.

Yea, the black unis can go. Have we EVER won with them? As far as the game, I mentioned in the game thread that we went on a run and took a 4 point lead when Roy went to the wholesale subs late in the second half. Didn’t look very smart at the time. Well, then the starters return and blow us away. Brilliant. I hear a lot of UNC fans criticizing Roy for his in-game coaching. They can take a breather.

I am sure it is the unis.

Totally outcoached for this one. We had no clue how to stop them.

Hey, if you are underneath the basket trying to rebound a 3 point shot, you won’t get many, except those that go thru the hoop. Is that a hard concept to grasp.

The UCLA high post does not compare well to more modern approaches. Our guys stand around way too much. Seems much easier to defend. Roy knew our offense better than we did.

We still have some head cases for players.

I hope we can win out. Picked to win the conf and we ma end up 9-9 or something like that.

OK….I have Debbe Yow’s email. I will wait until the morning to send her the sage advice to “can” Coach G. This may be a record. I think that Coach Lowe actually got a longer “honeymoon”tha coach G.

Black Uni’s were NOT the reason. Look at the box score. Yep, Roy had more fresh legs.

We committed WAY too many TO’s. Don’t know if that was the fault of “tired” legs or not since the first half stats on TO’s were worse than the second.

We had two seniors who played like seniors. Brown and Leslie did not make their numbers. Purvis seems to be AWOL. Warren was fighting. I don’t know why Lewis did not play in the second half.

May have been something in the match-ups. Just have to really play hard. We are NOW NOT in control of our destiny

UNC wil NOT run the table. So, we will be theoreticall TIED with them. We will really be chasing Virginia….

But, gotta admit we got outplayed.

I DO think that the “Calvin’s GOTTA….. ” comments several times in the post morteum said a LOT about what Coach G. thinks.

Calvin WILL go Pro…..but who knows what he will do.

Last year, he had a miracle finish…..right now, it will be a miracle if we finish “properly”

Canes got tromped…..seems to be how the season goes…..Canes playing well……we play well…..and Vice-Versa

I only got to see the second half so I really can’t comment on what happened in the first half but it sounds like Calvin played like crap.

After reading the message boards, I have to say that the criticism of Leslie, albeit warranted at times, is getting to be a little much. What people need to realize is that if he wasn’t on this team we wouldn’t even be .500 in the ACC. Yes, he is a frustrating player and he under-performs at times but every time we lose it can’t be all about him. We were up in the second half at one point and then the turnovers started again and Calvin had nothing to do with them. Purvis had one, Lo had one and Warren had one on three straight possessions I believe.

Bottom line is that constructive criticism is good but let’s not forget that Calvin carried us at the end of last season and he has been a big reason for our success this season.

If we win two games in the tourney I will be shocked. We are just not very good.

  11. WolfTrack 02/24/2013 at 10:35 AM #

This team doesn’t have the DEPTH to play with anyone. Why? because we lost 2 seniors in AJ and CJ and replaced them with (more talented, but streaky) freshmen in Purvis and Lewis. We lost Painter to transfer and replaced him with (more talented, but streaky) Warren. We lost EVERY serviceable depth player on scholarship when Davis and Raymond and Harris and DeTheay walked and got stuck with Vandenburg as the ONLY scholarship player left. Let’s face it, the starting 5 can go toe to toe with any 5 in the nation, but we’re one unlucky incident away from walkons playing. Until that changes (and heads up, that ain’t next year) we’ll have a puncher’s chance but it’s going to be damn hard to be a consistent, top level team.

  12. Wulfpack 02/24/2013 at 10:40 AM #

If Calvin had just been serviceable we win that game by at least 10 going away. It was apparent for all to see. I am through with cutting him slack. He is a veteran player and is playing like an idiot and acting like an imbecile. Sorry but that is just the way I see it. Time for his sorry behind to shape up or get the heck out.

  13. DC_wolf 02/24/2013 at 10:50 AM #

WolfTrack – well said. That was an A-1 summary of what has been transpiring this season & the causation.

I feel real bad about what I posted on Calvin above – as I tried to indicate in parentheses – but the numbers spoke for themselves. Calvin (or CJ), I love you dude, but you seem to disappear on some of the biggest stages. We have 4 starters back from a team that went to the sweet 16 – & we lose like that to a unc team that LOST 4 starters to the NBA?

I don’t take back what I said about the uni’s. ‘ROO, you’re going to look real sharp in your black STATE top @ all the cookouts this year, just remember: all your unc acquaintances will say “didn’t we kick your @S$es in those uni’s?” & their duke acquaintances will say: “EVERYONE kicks their @S$es in those things…” I’ll never buy that merchandise.

Not sure if we were out coached. You can’t coach turnovers and free throws. Good teams play under control and when your point guard makes as many mistakes as the bunch it’s hard to dictate the tempo. Wood played well including 2 locked shots. We controlled the boards in the first half. However, for all the times Brown showed patience and found the open man he also seemed not able to create anything. Even in the game in Raleigh we showed we could play out of control. Strange days ahead. It’s anyone’s tournament due to the neutral sites.

The team voted and THEY wanted to wear the black. THEY like them (RE: Gott’s comments on various media outlets in the past on the black’s).

I was actually wearing my Jimmy V. “nets” T yesteday. If you recall, it has the number 5 on the back. I usually wear the SAME thing that wear to the PNC. We have won a lot with my red (not burgundy) athletic briefs, my RED socks (from last year) and my black jeans with the Red NCSU web belt….

That little bit of info will set me up for being a marked man next time….

So, with all my “special lucky” gear on, it did NOT seem to influence the outcome. I have a bunch of logo stuff. I have “T”‘s going back to the mid 90’s from every ACC Tournament that I attended…most local, but some in DC, CLT and Tampa. I only own one “Black” pullover LWT jacket…..everthing else is white, red or gray…..AND I have worn the black jacket to a LOT of PNC victories…

Therefore, it will be tough to wear my black uni’s.

Speaking of outfits, I did not get to see the first half as my grandson’s MM BB game, as it should, was a priority. I did notice that Coach was in a white shirt and red tie… my LBSTI definitely favored us.

Will have to look for “NEW” items to base my predictions on. I did tell my wife that if we were within 8 or so and had played well at the half, we had a good shot.

I was watching the stats on my Droid App, but they do not show TO’s by player, just team. Calvin obviously had issues…..

Still stick by my comments…..the team coudl have been dress in the same RED’s that they won in at the PNC and lost…..obviously the color of the uni’s does not seem to influence them.

    Amen DC!
    Black unis = epic collapses
(See @ Maryland, @ Duke, yesterday @ UNC)

Never liked the look of the black unis. I thought ” we were the red and white from NC State”. Anyway I really don’t like them now that they are associated with epic ACC collapses. Bring back the classic uniforms and just play smart and hard for 40 minutes no matter the opponent.

  18. DC_wolf 02/24/2013 at 6:26 PM #

‘ROO – I got schooled from a friend back home today that the Pack actually has won a game in black: this year @ home against Clem’s son. I guess I didn’t remember because that game ‘felt’ like a loss… I stand corrected.

So don’t take any guff from your Clemson friends… ; )

  19. RednWhite4life 02/25/2013 at 9:45 AM #

You guys are seriously resulting to the uniforms we wore and that is the reason we lost? Pathetic. We lost because we didnt play well. Uniforms have nothing to do with who shows up on the floor and who plays like a college basketball players. You guys are ridiculous. We will be fine come March. Act like real Wolfpackers and stop crying and whining every time we lose. Good God it is enough.
