Wolfpack Golf alumnus and 1995 ACC Champion Hank Kim found quite a groove on the first day of PGA Tour Qualifying School. The Jonesboro, GA native shot a 7 under 63 to lead by one stroke after the first round on Tuesday. Current Pack golfer, Albin Choi carded a 71 (+1) to finish day one tied for 51st (GoPack.com link)…..
Starting on the back, Choi recorded par on all nine holes to make the turn at even. He bogeyed No. 1, but got that shot back with a birdie at the par-3 fourth hole.
However, that was the only birdie he carded all day. A bogey at nine left him at 71.
One of Choi’s playing partners is Hank Kim, a Wolfpack alum that won the 1995 ACC Championship.
Kim, from Jonesboro, Ga., leads the field of 75 after an impressive 7-under 63. He opened with an eagle 2 at the par-4 10th and was off and running with a 4-under 31 at the turn.
He made four of his seven birdies on on the front and came in at 3-under 32. He played the par-4s to a tune of -5 on the day, which tied for the best performance of the day.
Kim’s seven birdies were the third most on the day, while Choi’s 15 pars was second in the field on Tuesday.
Choi and Kim will tee off from No. 1 on Wednesday at 9:10 a.m.
