Carter-Finley’s national stature elevated by Saturday night’s atmosphere [UPDATED 1:30pm]

NC State couldn’t have picked a better night to fire-up the Wolfpack faithful in Carter-Finley Stadium after Sports Illustrated‘s Andy Staples made some misplaced remarks regarding our home atmosphere last week. You can click here to read about it.

So, let’s keep the national attention rolling by supporting everyone’s new favorite fan in this poll.

[Update]You’ve got to watch the video below as Andy Staples exhibited some great judgement to turn his gaffe into some great political points with NC State faithful. He has issued a video apology (below) that is absolutely awesome.

As much positive attention that NC State fans and the Carter-Finley atmosphere is attracting in the days after the big win over FSU, I can’t help but note that (because of fall break) the State crowd was actually short at least half the (loud) student population that we normally have!! And, many of those extra tickets were taken by Florida State fans that would normally have not been there to dilute our atmosphere. Something to ponder.

For my money, C-F is pretty consistently the loudest stadium of its size in the country. I remember being at games and sitting on the old hill, and feeling the ground shake beneath my feet when the fans were at full throat. Anyone that would make such an asinine comment has obviously never experienced it in person. Ask the opposing teams players and coaches how they feel about playing in C-F, that’s the real story.

Need to give a solid shout out to that “STAFF” member in the video with Jake the Shirt. He’s seems obliviously concerned about the safty aspect but takes a very controlled, mature, polite and gracious approach to his duty of attempting to get Jake “off the ledge”.

I respect and appreciate that approach. Somone should interview the staff member go get his reaction.

    wilmwolf,

C-F was shaking Saturday night, too. Sitting in Section 11 (upper deck), the stands were vibrating in the 4th quarter, especially when FSu faced a third down…

    It was awesome !

THAT is how you do an apology. Well done, sir. Well done indeed.

Awesome from Andy Staples…Awesome…apologizes but, make it funny and show how savy you are with our school’s mindset…very cool

Great apology. Good on ya, Andy !

    Loved the transcript bit 😉

  8. Wufpacker 10/09/2012 at 12:58 PM #

That is a classic mea culpa. Loved it. The fat Ray Liotta remark (one of the tweets) had me rolling.

Gotta tip your hat to the guy for that.

And as an aside, are our guy and the Arkansas guy twins separated at birth or something? Holy God, the resemblance is spooky.

Every couple of years, someone who really doesn’t know much about Carter-Finley makes a bad assumption: that it’s not a loud and boisterous stadium that definitely gives the home field advantage to the red and white. And those folks always end up apologizing when they know the truth: State fans have great passion, and are as loyal as any.

You’d think they’d ask players from other ACC teams. Seems they always rate CFS very well in terms as being “tough to play because of the crowd.”

And all that without the pine trees.

Very nicely done – and timely. Agree with Prowling Woofie that the crack about posting his transcripts on the internet were hilarious.

I thought the apology was fake and sarcastic. He had a smirk on his face. Also, he ended the apology with a “FSU blew the game” rather than NC State and their FANS won it tone!

Then he switches gears to the tune of some “random” ACC team beats FSU every year.

Dicationary.com – random: proceeding, made, or occurring without definite aim, reason, or pattern

Occurring without definite pattern you say??? I guess State beating them the past 5 of 8 times at the stadium he mocks is not a “pattern”. Did he major in AFAM?

So how about you guys insult your wife, then give an insincere condescending apology with a smirk on your face. Let me know how that works for you.

  12. wilmwolf80 10/09/2012 at 3:47 PM #

Gotta agree with packalum44, I found his ‘apology’ to be patronizing and insincere.

  13. JSRy2k 10/09/2012 at 4:15 PM #

I thought the FSU bit was hilarious. And, by the definition of random you share, packalum44, is our football team not random? We constantly lose games we shouldn’t and win ones we should. Year after year.

  14. SqlWolf 10/09/2012 at 4:19 PM #

I’m with packalum44 and wilmwolf80 on this. I see this as a faux’pology. Staples misses the mark as he tries to pander to the masses by putting out an attempt at humor. However, I find it to be self aggrandizing rather than self deprecating.

“And all that without the pine trees.”

Ha, surely you jest. Pine trees are very intimidating and they practically surround CF. There are literally thousands in close proximity, they’re just stealthily hidden from view. That just makes our pines even more dangerous.

    Fear the Pine!

Yeah, he throws us a bone then continues to troll us. What a guy!

We are to Florida State what Maryland is to us.

Welcome to Carter Frenzy Stadium —

kudos to the mods on PackPride of that label

Wow – tip o’ the hat to Andy Staples. That was awesome.

And Jake the Fan seems very comfortable with his sudden rise in popularity 🙂

  20. albunde6 10/09/2012 at 7:32 PM #

Is that Bartles or Jaymes in the background of Jake’s room?

For what it’s worth, thought the apology was humorous. Just like P T Barnum said, “don’t care what they say about me, as long as they spell my name right”.

  21. 1.21 Jigawatts 10/09/2012 at 7:34 PM #

I’m sorry but I’m in the group that instantly saw it as what it is, being sarcastic and taking another shot at State fans.

I could give two flips what he thinks but I did find the “I understand that some of you may take my college transcripts and post them on the internet, because I know some of you are very good at that.” very funny. Actually I found the whole thing very funny but in no way do I think that is an actual apology, not that I’m looking for one.

I think the security guy is trying to stuff a dollar bill in Jake’s shorts:)

  23. tann84 10/09/2012 at 8:12 PM #

I think it was a real apology. You can check his twitter timeline for when he was watching the game to get his real serious reaction. He just did something fun with it. I can see how some may think it was sarcastic but combined with his twitter apology which was much more serious, I think its sincere.

  24. JEOH2 10/09/2012 at 11:09 PM #

100% agree with Tann…his twitter feed alone backs this up as a real apology just done in a funny way

  25. MrPlywood 10/10/2012 at 1:31 AM #

    I vote sincere. And funny.
