Glennon and Lucas named team captains (WFMY Greensboro):

NC State’s football squad officially reported to camp on Monday evening, and one of the first orders of business was to elect captains. The team voted to elect quarterback Mike Glennon to represent the offense and linebacker Sterling Lucas to represent the defense.

“Being elected by their peers is testament to the leadership that these two young men have shown,” said head coach Tom O’Brien. “Not only have they worked hard throughout spring practice and in our summer workouts, but Mike and Sterling have also already earned their degrees.”

WRAL:

With a stellar offensive line and an all-star quarterback, the NC State offense could produce some fireworks this season.

The Pack finished the last season on fire, averaging 41 points in their final three wins. As preseason practice beings in West Raleigh, quarterback Mike Glennon expects to pick up right where he left off last season.

“I know I’m confident, we have a great line, we have great running backs and we’ve been working hard at the receiver position,” said Glennon. “So I’m very confident that our offense will put up a lot of points this year.”

Glennon doesn’t have T.J. Graham to throw to now, but sophomore receiver Tobias Palmer should step right in as Glennon’s go-to guy.

“Last year you know I was new to the program,” said Palmer. “I was trying to get aware of the offense but this year I feel as though I’ll have more of a grasp of the offense and just ready to play.”

Sophomore running back Tony Creecy has a year under his belt now and he provides Glennon yet another target coming out of the backfield.

“I played receiver in high school so I know how to run really smooth routes, so when I go against the linebackers that helps out tremendously because I get them going one way and I go the opposite way,” said Creecy.

Speaking of Creecy, GoPack.com is running a video series called “Creecy’s Pieces” focusing on his summer preparations (Installment 5).

    Congratulations to our captains!

Now for some humor. Good thing we were able to get them enrolled in the online “swahili literary classics” at UNX last summer.

You know I hope the O line is Stellar, but this assumption that they will be still baffles me. Experienced doe not = stellar. I hope they are. I am indeed ready for some football. I’m still considering Atlanta if I can get a group up and go.

This just in: UNCheat scandal broadens as it was confirmed today that, at the most recent direction of coaches Williams and Davis, Tarhole cheerleaders have been firing diplomas from the tee shirt cannon. This practice is suspected to have begun in the early nineties. Reviews of archived game film have revealed an ugly trend. Initially the cannon was used briefly during half time. Now however, fans are finding the constant bombardment of non-stop diploma strafing to be a distraction from the game with the cannon blasting constantly from pre-game warm ups until the lights go off.

Hope Palmer has an awesome year. He has certainly paid his dues, but yet still just a sophmore on the field. Lot’s of opportunity now for that young man . .

Lucas interview after first practice mentioned watching from above last year. Did he sit in the press box w/ Tenuta? If so, it’ll be interesting to see how his game has developed as a result.

Lucas did sit in the coaches box with Tenuta and learned where everybody was supposed to be depending on what defensive scheme was called. He was an “extra” coach during practices as well. Spent a lot of time studying film and the mental aspect of playing linebacker. His injury may have been a blessing in disguise. Now we’ll have a leader on the field!

Don’t expect the news media to get it right. Palmer is a Red Shirt Senior. This is his last hurrah. He was a transfer I believe.
