    Inspirational, as he always was/is.

Our NC State Family needs to honor him in a meaningful bricks and mortar kind of way, equal to the inspiration he created in all of us.

On a related note, you know how we have NC historical markers around the state (like the one erected about the abandoned/lost UNC-CHeat basketball reserves)? Well given that many new NCSU students don’t know a great deal about the history of NC State, maybe the alumni association or Wolfpack Club should erect similar types of “historic markers” on the NCSU campus recognizing contributions made academically and athletically through the years. Might be kind of neat to tour campus and see the significant facts about the university you don’t find in the campus literature or on the website. What do you think?

Goosebumps Hell!, I’m about to cry. V’s tenure at State ran concurrently with mine; at least the point from the championship to the end. None compare. His guys would run through brick walls for him; heck! most of us students would have. I guess I should be ashamed but I was only casually interested in Wolfpack sports after they lynched Jimmy V until the last few years. I got excited about Sid, I’m starting to feel it again with our current administration and Coach Gott.
The crowd that destroyed V’s legacy in the name of academic integrity(unproven accusations that pale in comparison to the facts disclosed in Chapel Hill) emasculated this great university. We were the place to be, the leaders; nearly two generations have a different opinion of NCSU. I hope we(the university) continue to hold ourselves to higher standards and trumpet that fact. Finally we are coming back. I agree with others, we need to celebrate the man who was one of our greatest achievers. History has proven the idiocy of his detractors!

Only a legend like him could motivate people into such a positive manner to accomplish not only their own goals, but as well as life changing experiences.

  21. golf76 08/10/2012 at 8:04 PM #

Thanks guys. Don’t get me wrong I am rabid Wolfpack fan. But in the spirit of education our “historical markers” should recognize academic achievement as well. We are about improving people’s lives through education, whether athlete or not.

As someone who graduated in 1968 and started watching the 1972 team shape up (we beat UNC for the first time in a LONG time) and then the amazing 1973 UNBEATEN season (except by Dean Smith and Bill Guthridge and their “buddies” at the NCAA) and then, finally the miracle of 1974…UCLA thought that we were wimps after the first game…that fateful afternoon in Greensboro showed otherwise.

Then a period of not so good and then the V man arrived. He changed our lives. He invented “the Dream room”. He motivated and he cannived and did the impossible. We owe a LOT to Case and Sloan, but V put on the map. The miracle of 1983 is one of the few clips that alsways makes the promos.

YES, we SHOULD honor V with something such as naming the PNC court after him. THere is STILL animosity towards him in the faculty since thier patron Saint, Monteieth, supposedly ran the evil V out of town. Claude Sitton and the other media moguls did that.

Write Debbie Yow. Express your opinion.

PLEASE look at Yahoo sports and then click on NCAAB and look at coach K. He has converted. CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. BJD95 08/11/2012 at 10:51 AM #

Whit has done an amazing job keeping V’s legacy front and center. The ESPN Classic “long version” of the title game (with Drexler and Whit commentary) was amazing. Not surprised he was key in moving this forward.

I dreamed about 1983 last night. Felt wonderful.
