Philip Rivers Gives Commencement Speech

Philip Rivers gave the commencement speech at graduation on Saturday at PNC Arena. If you have some time and haven’t seen it yet, give a listen to his words for the class of 2012 in this video from WRAL. Thought it was cool that he brought his oldest daughter with him since she’s the only official Raleigh native in the Rivers family.

Congrats to all the new NC State graduates!

I don’t know how many folks were there. Philip gave a GREAT address. He listed his priorities, Faith, Family and Football – in that order. He did NOT give an evangelical address or even use the word, GOD. He challenged the graduates to define THEIR passions and priorities and then be true to them. One needs to remember that Philip entered NCSU in January of his Sr. Year in HS. He THEN “made the team” and was the starting QB. He graduated in 4 years with a degree in Business Management. He also was an Academic All American for at least one semester or maybe a year.

The ceremony was very moving (but it did NOT move along…it lasted almost 3 1/2 hours). Philip’s address was fairly short. He got a huge round of applause. He was the SAME guy that we watched for 4 years and was a humble as he was after the Notre Dame game.

What WAS inspiring, as compared to our sister schools, was the fact that the 25 – 40 graduates, who were in uniform, and received their commissions on Friday were also honored. THEY received the LONGEST and the LOUDEST standing ovation. This came from the CROWD as well as the GRADUATES. I was really proud of my alma mater for the class that they showed, as compared to the footage from the OTHER ones and the comments from the speakers.

I would ALSO urge each of you to google Philip’s Foundation. He spoke of it. It is a foundation that cares for Unwanted, Abandoned and Orphaned children in the ghettos. It takes care of US kids.

Philip donates ALL of his OFF-FIELD earnings to it. NOW that is a committment. He chose these children as they have NO advocate.

Please google it, and if you see fit, donate to it. I did last night and feel much better today.

    GO PACK and GO PHILIP!

Agreed that PR’s “Rivers of Hope” is a very worthwhile destination for one’s charitable contributions. But no need for Google on this one as it isn’t too hard to find…

Glad to hear that Phil was a hit at graduation. I can’t even remember who the speaker was at mine.

Great to hear considering the rumors of his discontentment with NCSU over the Amato firing.
