I really didn’t want to be a nervous wreck over the next 5 games anyways. If feels good to be out of things. I can focus on my pottery.

Ty Warren will be big for us. You look at the top teams and they have a man at the three spot. Barnes, Kidd-Gilcrist, Joseph…all monsters. Scooter is still going to be a kid when he’s 28 years old.

Good season boys. It’s nice to beat up on the punching bags of the league instead of being the punching bag.

Back to being the joke of the conference.

I’ve said it before, Wood should not be a starter, he should be a role player off the bench.
When he gets his stroke back then he can come off the bench and cause defenses to adjust which will make it good for the rest of the team.
Don’t think he’s a worthless piece, just think he’s playing a role he’s not made for.
Like I said of the xarolina game…Wood just stands around and waits on the ball to come to him.

Can anyone tell me why Howell basically grabbed their guy with 5 seconds left? If my memory is correct, they hadn’t hit anything in 5 minutes prior to that. Somebody help me out here, i’m losing my mind.

I think what frustrates us about the Wood situation is he is getting way too many minutes to break a slump. I agree that players need to shoot their way out but 35 minutes of providing virtually nothing is terrible. Game after game.

It is as if all the coaches believe he is “Rudy” or something.

NCAA tourny help is on the way in the form of the recruits coming in next year, Gottfried biggest recruit for next year may already be on the team in Leslie, he he stays, with Brown and the new guys we may get there next year. one thing for sure, we wont have to go with a 7 man rotation next year and if Wood gets a mnntal case next year we will have someone else to play in his place.

I wouldn’t call Scott Wood a “useless hunk of flesh”….. but I do believe that some extra time watching from the bench wouldn’t hurt him…. And AJ deserves more playing time so it makes perfect since to me….

I could live with W being 1 for 16. But not 1 for 6. He has to try shooting his way out of his slump. Because he doesn’t add value anywhere else.

CJW was great in the first half. Calvin was great in the second half. Lo was great in OT (before the FT disaster). We need some synchronicity so one guy isn’t carrying us at any given time.

Just to put wood’s play in perspective…before this game he was both our highest rated player on offense and defense. He’s in a slump, teammates and coaches aren’t doing much to get him out of it, nor are the refs who are allowing him to be held. However, he’s got to work his way out of it.

Finally say what you want about wood, but he didn’t miss the foul shots that could have sealed it in regulation, nor did he miss the foul shots with 40 seconds left in ot nor did his man hit 2 wide open 3s in ot.

He must be shooting lights out in practice for Gott to stick with him like this.

Golenchain, I have been saying the same thing, he is a zone buster 10 minutes a game type player

  12. Rick 02/25/2012 at 5:34 PM #

The only role W should be playing is one earning him splinters in his rear

U win as a team. U lose as a team.

My new name for Howell is Hedgehog. He’s gonna clobber a guard at least 2-3 times a game 20-30 feet from the basket.

AS far as recruits, we need all of them no doubt, including for CJL to stay, but I think Tyler Lewis is going to be the key. Kid is no only skilled, but seems mentally tough. We haven’t had that in a PG in a while. Will make those around him better, and hopefully his intangibles will rub off on them.

“Finally say what you want about wood, but he didn’t miss the foul shots that could have sealed it in regulation,”

Well, no, that would require him to actually move and get the ball.

  17. BJD95 02/25/2012 at 5:36 PM #

Because grabbing dudes 35 feet from the basket is the way Richard Howell rolls on D.

  18. Wufpacker 02/25/2012 at 5:37 PM #

Sorry, Tyler Lewis is what I meant…brain cramp.

  19. WeAreCured 02/25/2012 at 5:38 PM #

    Richard loves grabbing dudes 😉

I am going to go play with the kids. I should have done that anyway instead of watching a piss poor effort. If they do not care I am not going to care.

  21. moose8865 02/25/2012 at 5:44 PM #

the big thing about all the recruits are they are leaders and gym rats

Next year, the added depth will help from a talent standpoint, but I really feel like it may help as much by just pushing the returning players to compete. Purvis starts from day 1. Even if Leslie returns, I’m guessing Warren starts by ACC play. May see a lot of Lewis and Brown on the court. Would’ve liked to have seen more improvement from Brown in the halfcourt. That shot clock violation near the end of regulation should’ve never occured. He didn’t come get the ball until 5 seconds to go. And that’s my biggist criticism of him. He’s just not assertive enough. Nice line today, but he could’ve abused the twerp guarding him all day long. He doesn’t get into the lane enough in the halfcourt.

Remember in January, when AJ couldn’t buy a bucket…

He hits some big shots against Duke and gets his mojo back and now Wood loses his touch.

I don’t say bench Wood. He’s better than what he’s been doing the last few games. He’s tentative. Shots he’d have tried and make half the time he’s not taking anymore. He’s thinking about what he should be doing, when he catches the ball.

Hope he can snap out of his slump.

One day, this team will click on all cylinders. I hope it’s in the ACC Tourney for 4 games.

“The only role W should be playing is one earning him splinters in his rear”

I remember those comments about Alex Johnson a few weeks back.

We just find ways to lose these sort of games, while successful programs find ways to win them on a regular basis.

Hopefully the culture and attitude of the program can change.

“That shot clock violation near the end of regulation should’ve never occured.”

Wood caught it off a screen and at the start of the year, he’d have shot it without thinking. Now he passes those shots up.

Whatever’s hurting him, he needs to snap out of it.

Next year hopefully we’ll win the close ones. That was a total team and coaches loss.
