We win our bowl and the tarholes get stomped in theirs. That is quite a week indeed.

I agree was sweet seeing UNC-BS get hammered in their bowl with about 1,500 UNC fans while we played a great game in front of a good crowd. While looking over at some UNC posts after their game I saw quite a few that showed why they are the kind of BS with this one being the best:

    QUOTE “Thanks Lance.
Most of us UNC fans have enough sense not to waste our time and money on a meaningless bowl game. Between the 2 teams, last night was their 11th loss. A combined 15-10 season didn’t merit a 1 game extension. College football ended a month ago, and real football fans know it. Nothing against Shreveport, but why spend your Christmas there unless you have to?

What’s TRULY embarrassing is your post. Our season ended on November 26th with a win. There is no post-season, just a money making scheme in the shape of many bowls. Our players are smart enough to understand these bowl games are just for show, so they go have some fun and then call it a year.

The Tigers may have won the game, but at least our mascot didn’t break anything” UNQUOTE

I love how their future NFL defensive players are so smart and that they know the game is just for show. If so what did they show the NFL scouts with their performance?

To watch Carolina get the hell beat out of them, us win our bowl game and Amerson beat an interception record held by a Carolina player along with a great Christmas with my family wraps up an awesome Christmas break. I’m going to keep my on Louisville for the next couple of years. They are freaking talented and well coached. Charlie Strong recruited me while he was at South Carolina. One of the most impressive men I have ever heard speak about the game. looking forward to next year with what we’ve got coming back. Go Pack!

Congrats to the Wolfpack, the coaching staff, and those who kept the faith when the season looked like it was down the tube. Go Pack!

Speaking of “looking forward to next year with what we’ve got coming back,” what exactly do we have coming back? I hope someone more knowledgeable than I can review those rising juniors and sophomores who are likely to stay and the red shirt freshmen and incoming recruits who are likely to contribute next season. Would be great to see a good analysis.

“College football ended a month ago, and real football fans know it.”

I love it. This guy combined two of their most loved spins/excuses (we weren’t really trying AND; you are inferior to us BECAUSE we are good enough fans to realize traveling to the game and supporting our team just isn’t what good fans do) into one sentence.

I’m guessing that they “never seriously recruited” Bryce Kennedy, either.

Last night was a tale of two halves, much like our season. In the first half, we really looked great, outside of that dropped snap on the punt. In the second half, our offense was offensive but our defense was solid. From a coaching perspective, we tried to give it away virtually every way possible once we’d built a lead. That’s what I’ve come to expect from TOB.

I’ll take a bowl win any day though. We end the season on a high note, with momentum moving into next year and a bigger check as a result.

I’ll also take a win over Louisville any day. That’s a program that I just don’t like. They have that killer combination of poor academics and an entitled fan base. Frankly, they’d be perfect for the SEC (if not for Kentucky blocking them). I remember them KILLING us a few seasons ago, so a little pay back at a bowl was nice.

    Some other thoughts?
    – Glennon and Bible had a great first half. Once Strong adjusted at half, we didn’t adjust again and thus stopped moving the ball.
    – That Louisville QB took some beatings that reminded me of our own Jamie Barnette. He was one TOUGH customer. There were so many times that I thought there’d be no way he’d get up, and he would. Very impressive. If he stays 4 years, watch out for Louisville.
    – We have got to get a new special teams coach. I’ve been critical of Petercuskie for a while, and specifically about special teams. Last night was a showcase as to why.
    – I think we may have seen Bible coach his last game at State. I have no insider information, but it’s just a feeling I have due to his health.
    – We need to hold onto Tenuta. The Archer/Tenuta combo seems to be doing pretty well together. Last night’s defense is what I expected out of us all season. I LOVED how we stuffed the QB run option stuff, made Louisville a bit one dimensional and kept knocking the QB down. If we could stay healthy, the defense could really carry us next year.
    – Amerson is the best ball hawking corner that I’ve personally seen at the college level. If we had him returning kicks, with the elusiveness that he showed last night on the INT return, I honestly think he could have been a Heismann contender. Well, he’d be as much of one as NC State is realistically going to produce.
    – Manning is turning into a beast. If he’s back next year, he could be our next truly great LB following in the most recent footsteps of Nate.

did anyone else catch TOB’s post game comment to the sideline reporter who came up and said… “alot of seniors on this team Tom, how special is it for them”…. and he responded…. “actually we dont have that many seniors on this team”, and he kind of paused so you can just see his thoughts of “so do your f-ing homework before you say something stupid like that to me again” insinuation to it.

you gotta love the way TOB handles the media

^^Rye-Good observations; Game was very exciting and filled with twists and turns of momentum-saw where Manning will evaluate his NFL options over the offseason-we need him back next year! Had seats in the corner of the endzone at club level-thought that these would be poor for viewing, but the seats were really good.

Did you guys forget bout David Amerson breaking the ACC record with 13 Interceptions?

  10. NelsonHall97 12/28/2011 at 7:41 PM #

State fans showed up well in Charlotte! I overheard a few Loserville fans saying “this is like a home game for them.” Truth is…it was. 2/3 of fans in the staduim were State fans. I had club level seats in section 344 on the Big East side and half of the people sitting around me were State fans.

I attended the bowl game and happy to come away with a win. However 6-6,7-5,8-4 seasons are getting old. Last nites game should have never been as close as it was. Sure we had turnovers, and Lousiville made adjustments at halftime, but I solely blame a 3 point second half by the offense on Dana Bible. He is hellbent on playing not to lose when we had the big lead and it almost cost us the game. What was he thinking running the ball on 4th and 2 late in the 4th quarter? There should have been a pass in one of those 4 downs, as our ground game was certainly not overpowering. So we gave the ball back to Louisville, with the chance to tie or win the game. If we ever want to compete for a championship Bible must can the play not to lose thinking and play to win. If we are ahead by maybe 2 scores with 5 minutes left in the game then I have no problem with being conservative, but again 3 points in the second half. Thank Amerson for a defensive score. And yes I do agree the the Special Teams coach needs to be canned. They sucked last nite.

    One of JP’s observations:
“N.C. State won bowl games in consecutive seasons for only the fourth time in school history”

The coaches were Lou Holtz, Bo Rein, Chuck Amato, and Tom O’Brien

He also made the same observation as everyone here – special teams play needs improvement if we are to keep improving.

    One observation from me:

    UNC-BS: 13-16 all-time bowl record / 5 ACC Championships
    NCSU-TUONC : 14-11-1 all time bowl record / 7 ACC Championships

Yet somehow they consider their football program elite compared to ours.

re: “so do your f-ing homework before you say something stupid like that to me again” insinuation to it.

That wasn’t the first goof by a reporter, and it won’t be the last. If she was quick on her feet she could have shot back with “My mistake coach. Can I ask about the mistakes NC State made on special teams and clock management?”

^^ Maybe she was too busy thinking about how great she looked in the new toque she found at Belk’s. Maybe the toque itself was cutting off blood flow to her head?

  16. PackerInRussia 12/29/2011 at 3:46 PM #

I don’t think going for it on 4th and 2 can be considered in the list of “playing not to lose.” If you get it, you pretty much seal it. That’s going for the win in my opinion.

I’d also argue that trying to run as much clock as possible when holding a 21 point lead is a good winning strategy as well. Without a few crazy plays by Louisville, and the way the defense was playing, I think that running clock is throwing dirt on the grave after you’ve buried them.

On another note, obviously I’m partial, but it seems that NC State has too many unreviewed close calls. Is it just me?
