NC State running back Mustafa Greene will redshirt the 2011 season after having offseason surgery for a foot injury.

Here is the N&O story.

Well that sucks. Guess we can just wait til next year…again…

    who cares

  3. Packfan28 10/17/2011 at 1:57 PM #

^ Moose probably cares. I care. That’s at least two.

  4. TheAliasTroll 10/17/2011 at 2:05 PM #

lol why do you care? I guess it’s positive news for next season, but if we couldn’t reach the ACC championship game with a current Heisman candidate front runner leading the offense last year combined with the defense playing adequately then why does it really matter?

I’m glad he’s red shirting. Glennon is going to be that much better next year, and hopefully by next year we will have a defensive coach who knows how to coach defense.

But you’re right. This year is pretty much who cares.

It actually doesnt matter until 2014, his RS senior year. This year we would have probably gotten the same or worse production out of him as Washington and Creecy.

But having said that, CHEER UP! We havent lost to Carolina yet!

You had to kind of assume this was going to be the case when it was first mentioned by TOB a few weeks back. The bigger question is when can we expect to get Sweezy and Rieskamp back?

  8. Packfan28 10/17/2011 at 2:44 PM #

Sweezy is not on the injury report, and not on the depth chart. What the hell is that about? Has TOB created a 3rd list? “Guys that I will let you know about when I decide to let you know” list?

  9. EasternWakeWolf 10/17/2011 at 2:51 PM #

Rieskamp is not on either list as well. Didn’t think that Gentry was hurt that bad, but he’s not on the two deep and not on the injury list. In fact, there is no one on the week to week injury list, just “out for the year” for Greene, Byrd, and Lucas.

Tom isn’t the best judge of when to use a redshirt. Russell’s true freshman year anyone? Perhaps Tom’s biggest mistake was to redshirt the kid. And that’s saying alot b/c Tom has made dozens of costly mistakes.

(Sidenote but wouldn’t it be nice if RW was ineligible this season so this stupid polarization within our fanbase would never have occurred?)

The dude is only good at a couple of things, and successfully coaching big time college football requires many more talents than he possesses. I mean seriously, does he really think he’ll be around past next year to benefit from Greene’s redshirt?

Frank Beamer redshirted Michael Vick, so lots of coaches make that mistake. Nobody has a crystal ball.

I thought the “official” injury report didn’t have to come out until later in the week. Thursday maybe?

Sweezy is being re-evaluated, his foot is bothering him. Teal is back in 2 weeks earliest. Otherwise, we’re basically set as far as defense the rest of the year.

I think Moose would have outperformed JW, easily, which means we could have had a really good ground attack going into the back half with Moose, JW and Creecy all fresh.

I think we are fine on the ground, though UVA has some mammoth DTs

You have to play with the players you have. It is up to the coaching staff to get the back-up players ready. The Packers lost about 15 starters last year on the way to a Super Bowl Championship, just saying.

That’s a great point, pack44fan. It’s on the coaches to work with what you have as injuries, while unfortunate, are inevitable. You can’t realistically ponder all the what ifs. Truly great teams find a way to win despite their shortcomings and truly great coaches get the most out what they have to work with. Now get out there, beat everyone else on the schedule and bring us to the promised land.

Were I in his shoes I would do the same thing too. I don’t blame him one bit.

    No pun intended? 🙂

It is best for Moose and that is the right thing to do. This season is shot regardless. The only thing to look forward to is whether or not TOB is here next year, followed by the split fan base arguing if DY made the right decision. I think he will be back whether we (or myself) like or not. The injury excuses will continue for ever.

Easiest decision anyone with 1% of a brain can make is to let Archer go asap.

Good bye, good ridance, and whatever else to Archer. Waste of good money! Maybe we can aquire the servieces of Spazioni, if BC fires him.

Does anyone else find it interesting that so many of our injured players are not recovering as initially expected? I remember when TOB came in, he made a big deal about changing up the strength and conditioning program, because our guys were being called upon to do it right under the previous coaching regime. Now, it seems like anytime we lose a player, he’s out for at least half a season, if not longer. We all thought Moose would be back in time for at least the last 2/3 of the season.

Also sucks that we lose Gentry for possibly the rest of the year. Was really hoping to see him get a carry in the senior day game…

Doesn’t matter who we have on offense- Russell Wilson or Mustafa Greene. As soon as the other team gets the ball, they ram it down our throats.

Until we build a program that has a defense which stops the opponent from scoring, repeatedly, we won’t ever be good again.

Well at least I get another year’s use out of my Mustafa Greene jersey!
