Fauria’s Five – for 2010 or 2011?

So…ESPN has this video where some guy named Christian Fauria picks his top five teams in the ACC for 2011. You can see the 4 minute and 45 second video by clicking here.

I just watched the video and found Fauria’s comments to be ‘interesting’ in light of the fact that he is supposed to be discussing the 2011 season…yet, almost every observation he shares with viewers are is related to something in the past and has no relevance to the 2011 season. “Fauria’s” choices are summarized below because (paraphrased) ‘these are the teams with the best chance of going to a bowl’.

Really? UNC, who is getting ready to be hammered by the NCAA has the greatest chance of going to a bowl? Why not put Miami in here? You can’t say because of the NCAA issues because you put UNC in here.

(5) Boston College – Every year BC finds a way to win games. (Even though last year they barely broke .500 and NC State beat them by ~30 points). Wow. That is insightful.

(4) North Carolina – “Fauria” seems to really love his “Carolina Blue”. He has a lot of good things to say about Butch Davis…but, Butch Davis doesn’t coach at UNC anymore. He seems to be really impressed with how TJ Yates and his teammates handled adversity last year. But, TJ Yates and more than 20 of his teammates from last year are no longer on the team. Let’s see — UNC has a weaker defense than last year’s 7-5 regular season squad and they are starting a new quarterback instead of TJ Yates. Makes total sense!

(3) Maryland – Talks about firing Ralph Friedgen. Then says they are going to have a hard time on defense. Well, that sounds like a great plan for success!! Who wouldn’t put a team with a weak defense and a new coach in the #3 slot? At least he referenced Danny O’Brien…a player that actually will take the field in 2011.

(2) Virginia Tech – consistent in the past. Really? You don’t say?

(1) Florida State – wait a second…Fauria FINALLY actually discusses CURRENT players on talks about the players that are actually on

what a freaking idiot. why is this even being posted? i just sat thru a useless advert and 3 mins of yabbering that i didnt even finish watching after he appeared to be getting the state helmet up but grabbed maryland one for #3 after UNC(#4) and BC(#5).

I cracked up laughing as soon as I saw UNC’s name tagged in the bottom. Fauria may have been a good TE, but his skills as an analyst suggests he should ride the pine at ESPN.

I loved the line on how Butch “made sure” he left a lot of talent. Yeah, he was thinking about UNC’s future. I also love how Fauria may have gone with “even NC State”… i guess that was too far a stretch, compared with, you know, BC.

what an idiot….He could not even talk 1 minute before stepping on his tongue. His UNC comments were comical

He played TE in the NFL for the Patriots. I guess that is why BC is on the list. I got nothing else to explain any of the other questionable picks.

inhoc, thanks for the comment. Now I know not to go watch this tripe (as if this blog wasn’t enough to keep me away). When I want to see something that will make me mad, I’ll just read the idiotic posts from UNX fans on WRAL’s sports blogs!

If there’s one “consistent” thing we can say about ESPN’s “analysts”, it is that they have no idea what they’re talking about. Don’t watch ESPN unless State is playing, and I turn the sound off even when that is happening. They’re a joke.

Didn’t this guy play TE for the Seahawks first? It would explain his worthlessness.

In other news, Todd Turner was hired to help UNC with it’s AD search.

StateFans, you left out the part where Foria said that they left the cupboard filled, YOUNG, but a lot of talent. Those Carolina guys are forever young!

    In hoc brings the pain.

I understand that we have a “new” quarterback but our defense should be one of the best in the ACC. And like Statefans said, everything he said was stuff about last year and nothing about the upcoming season. I guess we will have to prove ourselves like we have to do every year. Can’t wait for September 3rd!
