“Dick is a true true Tarheel”…what does that mean?

I sit in absolute glee watching this UNC-CHeat train wreck unfold.

I love it! Thorp says “We need Dickie in Indianapolis!”

Yep, go with those who got you there!

dang it! I was hoping that Bad-“odor” wouldn’t be a casualty! He was giving Fowler a run for his money for the worst AD in ACC history…

  8. Wulfpack 07/28/2011 at 10:54 AM #

This really is comical. Butch is taking them all down with him.

Any chance HBO’s Hard Knocks will do a season in Chapel Hill?

  10. apollocreed 07/28/2011 at 10:56 AM #

    [1 min before press conference]…
Thorpe: Hey Dickie, read this when I put you up…
    Baddour: What? Ok…
    LOL

““Dick is a true true Tarheel”…what does that mean?”

    Is that a double positive?

NCSUPackFan “Dick is a true true Tarheel…what does that mean?”

He is capable of getting the ‘student-athletes’ through the system without much effort, aka the carolina way. He has professor’s on his side, or in his pocket.

Let’s see how they really react to the ACADEMIC ISSUE. Are they going to revise the current curriculum that many of the student-athletes are enrolled. Are they actually going to have to do some work to graduate?

How does he get a buyout??? They are going to pay him millions for not invoking the clause in his contract “he should have known”

This is unbelievable!!!! Wasting money in a tight budget time. Thorpe is way out of his league. He is next I promise.

  14. notagain 07/28/2011 at 11:02 AM #

Interesting that unx will not pursue causal termination. They are just paying him $2.7 mil without much question…still saying that butchie didn’t know. Stinks of a 7 figure cover up to me! WOW!!!

  15. PackManSJP 07/28/2011 at 11:03 AM #

Who just asked if Bunting had been contacted about coming back?

  16. Gowolves 07/28/2011 at 11:05 AM #

Those 216 records are never going to be released??? BMFD is now not going to Indy? Great question from Joe Ovies. “What did it take to pay him to go away.”?

216 has some damning evidence for sure

  17. Prowling Woofie 07/28/2011 at 11:06 AM #

Hush money – plain and simple !

They certainly have (had) cause to fire Butch – Why would they willingly shell out 2.7 mill unless it’s to close his yap in the aftermath ?

Hey Holden – IT’S STILL STINKING OVER THERE !!!

  18. coach13 07/28/2011 at 11:09 AM #

Somebody has to….HAS TO right a tell all book.

  19. Wulfpack 07/28/2011 at 11:10 AM #

They are paying him to shut his pie hole.

  20. ryebread 07/28/2011 at 11:12 AM #

Prowling and notagain beat me too it. That’s $2.7M in hush money to Butch Davis in hopes that it prevents the death penalty or it creeping into basketball.

Baddour was getting fired over this. There’s no question about it. I’m actually a little concerned that UNC may upgrade here as Baddour was down there with Lee and Wellmann as the worst ADs in the league (IMHO).

I’d say it’s a 50/50 toss up that Thorpe is gone too. He should be, but these may be the sacrificial lambs that save his job.

Also, the firings shouldn’t distract from the NCAA hammer. UNC is doing this to try to say they’ve addressed the problem, but the NCAA just needs to keep marching forwards. The findings in the letter don’t mention Davis or Baddour. They speak to gaps in institutional control by UNC.

  21. STLPack01 07/28/2011 at 11:13 AM #

ESPN Insider is running a story about all the stunned UNC recruits.

    I have no compassion.

“Dick is a true true Tarheel”

Too many possible jokes. I’ll leave it alone. lmao

  23. ppack3 07/28/2011 at 11:17 AM #

I still love when anyone calls Baddour ‘Dickie.’

Thorpe is deflecting all questions about the BOT’s influence in this decision. He’s taking it all on himself. No one, who knows anything, actually believes him.

Thorpe is saying that they will pay Butch whatever they ‘have to pay’ in order to make this separation [from Butch] happen. This indicates that they don’t care what it takes to get rid of Butch.

I’ve said for a year, that the stadium expansion was a heavy consideration in their keeping Butch. Today, I heard that the season ticket holders just got hosed. It was said that UNC wiped the slate clean, with regards to ticket holders’ points and rankings. They basically said to the ticket holders that ‘if you want good seats, you’re gonna have to pay new prices and pledge donations for years to come. Not that it’s any different than what we have experienced through our own stadium expansion. However, we didn’t fire our coach during the days and weeks after every ticket holder emptied their pockets in hopes that they were getting a hot ticket for the coming season. If true, these fans were held hostage. And, ultimately, that money will supplement a buyout, rather than ammenities or upgrading the value of UNC Football.

Butch already told everyone that there are plenty of things that he didn’t need to know. I guess his job status and his support system weren’t excluded in that notion.

This thing is not over for UNC. Having said that, Thorpe just said that it would be Davis’ decision as to whether or not he would release those phone records. Quickly, another question is asked. This point is huge. Huge. Thorpe has just said that Butch doesn’t have to release those phone records?! Really? Rest assured, those records had something that was incriminating. I have no doubt.

Joe Giglio just asked Thorpe about the idea that Butch’s contract states that he can be fired for cause if he calls into question the integrity of the University, or that he should have known about any Major NCAA Violations levied against the University on his watch. The question was, ‘If you aren’t going to pursue firing him for cause, considering your budget crisis, how do you justify firing him without cause.’ The implication is that, Thorpe is using the University’s integrity AS THE REASON FOR FIRING BUTCH!!!!!!!!! How do you NOT pursue firing for cause, given the contractual terms? Thorpe’s answer? ‘The funds for any buyout are going to come from the Athletic Department, not the University.’ That’s right, it’s coming from the TICKET HOLDERS THAT YOU SCREWED!!!!!!!

    Unreal.

The Holes are in deep chit!

Need a new AD. Need a new Coach. All in the middle of NCAA Investigation/Ruling. Seem to have inaducate leadership. And at this point when they talk, even if they may be telling the truth, no one beleives them.

Half that chit seemed to be half truths politcal save face chit to me. 216 records will probalby not be released as per HT that will be up to Butch??????

“Dick is a true true Tarheel”

The converse is also true…and easier to prove!
